Green River EMT Program

Student Checklist – 2017

Thank you for your interest in the EMT program at Green River College! The Emergency Medical Technician program prepares students to take the National Registry Exam in order to qualify for state certification after meeting the Washington state requirements for employment. Students should follow the below steps to get started!

Step 1: Attend a mandatory information session which will take place a few times each quarter.

Mandatory sessions for the Winter quarter are: October 23rd and November 6th at 5 pm. Location: Science Center RM 159

*Note the last mandatory information session is November 6th. Students first need to attend a mandatory information session before moving on to the next steps. If you cannot attend during these dates/times, please contact Karen Urick:

Step 2: Take the first aid entrance exam and obtain a passing score of 70%

Study from any first aid book. More information will be given at the mandatory session. Entrance exams will be done in the testing center during their normal operating hours after you have attended the mandatory information session.

Step 3: Obtain or update your CPR card if necessary (CPR cards are valid for 2 years)

BLS CPR Card. BLS CPR card must be healthcare provider level.

Step 4: Gather all necessary documentation including:

a.  Copy of a valid Driver’s License (Washington or Out of State)

b.  CPR card: BLS for healthcare providers

c.  Proof of vaccines: Hep B and TB skin test, varicella; flu shot recommended

d.  High School Diploma or equivalent: Copy of high school transcripts, GED, or college transcripts indicating proof of high school completion

e.  Complete Application & background check and turn into Assessment and Testing Center, SA 148. This is usually done after you have completed the first aid entrance exam.

Step 5: Bring copies of all documents and set up meeting with the instructor (all documents except application and background check which you will turn into Assessment and Testing Center) . You will receive entry codes for the courses from instructor.

Due date for all documents for Winter quarter start date: December 15, 2017.

After you’ve completed the above steps and are enrolled in the program, you need to complete the following:

1.  Apply to the college and obtain your student ID number (SID)

2.  Access the online orientation through your Canvas (greenriver.edu/elearning). After you complete the online orientation, you will receive your PIN. You will need your SID and PIN to register.

3.  Register for EMT classes (you should use the entry codes you received to register for courses)

4.  Pay tuition.

5.  Buy EMT text books available in the college bookstore or online

6.  Purchase EMT kit-available in the college bookstore

7.  Purchase a wrist watch if you don’t have one

8.  Plan your work/study schedule

9.  Start reading the textbook
