The 2015 Connecticut Art Education Awards is the annual recognition program of the Connecticut Art Education Association, Inc., the state’s professional organization for art educators at all levels. Official nominations should be submitted to the CÆA Awards Chair, Suzanne Dionne, no later than February 23, 2015. They will be screened by the Awards Committee for adherence to the awards criteria, and then voted on by the Executive Board. The awards criteria are applicable to all outstanding art educators, and will be considered in varying degrees in the selection of award recipients. Your participation in this important recognition process will help to showcase Connecticut art educators who are doing outstanding work in the profession.

The Objectives of the CÆA/NAEA Awards Program are:

·  To recognize excellence in the state's art educators;

·  To focus professional attention on quality art education & exemplaryart educators;

·  To increase public awareness of the importance of quality art education for all of Connecticut's children;

·  To set standards for quality art education and how they can be achieved;

·  To provide tangible recognition of achievement, earn respect of colleagues,and enhanceprofessional opportunities for CÆA/NAEA members.

·  To show our appreciation to individuals or organizations who have made outstanding contributions to art education.

General Information:

Who may nominate?

Anyone may nominate: teachers, administrators, board members, etc.

Who is eligible?

NAEA/CÆA members who meet the established criteria for the awards are eligible to be nominated. Nominees must be members for three consecutive years. However, membership is not required for the Distinguished Service to the Profession and the Scott Shuler Distinguished Art Advocate Awards.

Who should write nomination and support letters?

The individual making the nomination must write the letter of nomination. Letters supporting the nomination can be written by NAEA/CÆA members and nonmembers alike. (Nomination Letters: Nominators and nominees should be able to craft support letters so that they can be used for both state and national level nominations, in order to move state-level honorees forward to national-level award nomination.)

What do I need to submit?

A Nomination Form, a personal resume/vita emphasizing contributions to special needs art education, a cover letter of nomination, two letters supporting nomination, and a photograph on disk Check individual awards descriptions below for additional materials to submit.

Do I need to submit all required documents together?

All nomination documents should not be submitted separately. In order for a nomination to be considered complete, all necessary materials must be submitted together. If you are making multiple nominations, they can be submitted together as long as they are clearly divided and contain all items required for the nomination for each specific award.

What are the general criteria?

Outstanding Art Educators have:

§  demonstrated outstanding teaching

§  demonstrated leadership in the field of art education

§  done research, published, or exhibited making contributions to a body of knowledge of the field at the local, state or national level

§  demonstrated local or state reputation in the area of art education

§  had active participation in the CÆA at the local or state level.

§  been actively involvement in the profession, at the local or state level, in curriculum design

§  developed an outstanding program in the field at the local, state or national level.

§  made worthwhile contributions to local or state conferences, designing workshops, panels, presentations or media events

Award Descriptions:

Outstanding Art Educator in a Division:

Elementary, Middle Level, Secondary, Supervision/Administration, Higher Education, Museum Division.A member is eligible only for an award for their respective membership division. Must be an active member.

Outstanding State Art Educator:

ActiveCÆA/NAEAmembers who have made significant contributions to art education on the state level are eligible. Will be selected by the awards committee from the nominations submitted.Must be an active member.

Distinguished Cooperating Teacher or Mentor:

Recognizes an active CÆA/NAEA member who has an exemplary record of working with preserve and/or new teachers as a cooperating teaching and/or mentor.Must be an active member.

Outstanding Special Needs Art Educator Award:

Recognizes an active NAEA/CÆA member who has brought distinction to the profession of special-needs art education through an exceptional and continuous record of achievement that has had a significant impact on students with disabilities and special needs are eligible to receive the award.Must be an active member.

John Nerreau, Outstanding Retired Art Educator:

Retired NAEA/CÆA members who have been retired at least 3 years and have brought distinction to the field of art education by exceptional and continuous records of achievement through teaching, professional leadership, and/or community service before and after retirement are eligible. Submit: Nomination form noting date of retirement, Standardized vita with all service and achievements occurring after retirement underlined, etc.

Distinguished Service To the Profession:

Recognizes outstanding achievement and contributions in previous years by persons or organizations inside or outside the field of art education.Eligibility is open to any person or organization, which has demonstrated significant contribution to visual arts education.When nominating an organization, include the organization name in the “Name of Nominee” field, and include the name of a primary contact for the organization in the “Nominee Information” section.Membership not required.

Scott Shuler Distinguished Art Advocate:

Recognizes outstanding achievement and contributions in art education advocacy by persons or organizations inside or outside the field of art education.Eligibility is open to any person or organization, which has demonstrated significant contribution toadvancementof arts education.When nominating an organization, include the organization name in the “Name of Nominee” field, and include the name of a primary contact for the organization in the “Nominee Information” section. Membership not required.

These awards are presented to outstanding individuals and organizations that work to support and improve art education. Membership is not required. Consider Principals, Superintendents, Boards of Education, local and regional politicians for these awards.

The award’s committee of CÆA will consider all nominees for this award. Since the candidate is a member of the NAEA, his or her name will be submitted to the NAEA for national award consideration. This award winner will be recognized at the Annual Conference of the National Art Education Association.
