5. TITLE OF THE DISSERTATION:A SURVEY STUDY ON IMPACT OF DADHI- KSHEERA (SAMYOGA VIRUDDHA) PRACTICE ONHEALTH STATUS.

6. BRIEF RESUME OF THE STUDY:

6.1 need for the study:

Ahara is very much essential for the sustainment of life of all living beings1. It is stated to be responsible for both Arogya (health) and Vyadhi (disease)2.Hita Ahara if consumed according to rules, they provide fuel to the fire of digestion, they promote mental as well as physical strength, strength of tissues, elements and complexion. They are pleasing to the senses, otherwise they are harmful3.Any Ahara which is not prepared as per the asta Ahara Vidhi Vishesha Ayatana( Dietietic code) does not benefit the body4.

Viruddha means a substance which causes increase of Doshas but not capable of expelling it out. Hence they are constantly antagonistic to the tissues, being within the body causing damage5,6.Intake of unwholesome (Viruddha) food is responsible for the causation of Shaandya , Aandhya, Visarpa, Dakodara, Visphota, Unmada, Bhagandara, Moorcha, Mada, Aadhmana, Galagraha, Pandu, Amavisha, Kilasa, Kusta, Grahani, Shopha, Amlapitta, Jwara, Pinasa, Santaana dosha and even Mrtyu7.

Samyoga is the combination of two or more dominant substances and it is one among the Viruddha. This results in the manifestation of specific attributes which cannot be manifested by individual substances8.Samyoga Viruddha is intake of a Amla substances withKsheera9. One such example for Samyoga Viruddha in our classic is intake of Dadhi with Ksheera10.In terms of potency Dadhi and Ksheera are hot11 and cold12 respectivelyand in terms of Rasa Dadhi possessAmla13 and KsheeraMadhura Rasa14.On the whole they are Viruddha in terms of Samyoga, Rasa and Virya15.

The practice of taking Dadhi with Ksheera is seen in people of Hassan, hence the survey study is being taken to evaluate its impact on health status.

6.2 Review of the literature:

Ahara, Nidra and Brahmacharya are Trayopastamba. When they are judiciously used they give support to the body by giving strength, colour and growth for whole life span1,2.

If Hita Ahara is consumed according to Vidhi they provide Bala, Varna and is Indriya Prasadaka3.Any Ahara which is not prepared as per the asta Ahara Vidhi Vishesha Ayatana( Dietietic code) does not benefit the body. On the contrary it harms the body by vitiating Doshas and Dhatus, hence any Ahara inducing pathology in human body comes under the heading of Viruddha Ahara. Mostly Viruddha Ahara induce pathology upto three initial stages of Kriya Kala, it produce pre pathogenic condition forming platform for disease production4.Viruddha Ahara causes damage to the tissues and increase Doshas but do not expel them5.

The incompatible foods could be considered similar to poison and artificial poisoning if taken simultaneously6. Virudha Ahara causes various disorders- Ama, skin diseases, Visarpa, acid dyspepsia and even death7.Samyoga means combination of two or more dominant substances8.Combination is intake of sour substances with milk9.Unwholesome combinations such as mushroom, bamboo, sprouts, sour fruits, salt, horse gram, oil cake, Dadhi, oil, germinated grains, rice flour, dried vegetables, meat of goat and sheep, wine, Jambu fruit, Cilicima-fish, Iguana and pork should not be taken together with milk as they become like poison10.

Dadhi is Amla in Vipaka and Ushna inVirya11.Ksheera is Madhura in Rasa and Vipaka, Snigdha, increases Ojas and Rasadi Dhatus, VataPitta Shamaka, Virya Vardhaka, Kapha Karaka, Guru and Sheetala12,14.Dadhi posseses Amla in Vipaka and Rasa13.Madhura and Amla are incompatible in Rasa and Virya15.
