Athanasios Dermanis

Born: June 14, 1948 in Thessaloniki, Greece.

1967-1971: studies at the School of Rural and Surveying Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and received his Engineering Diploma.

1972-1976: studies at the Department of Geodetic Sciences, The Ohio State University. Research Associate in various NASA programs.

1976: PhD, advisor Prof. Ivan Mueller joint Examination Committee with the Department of Mathematics.

1977: Military service, Surveying Department, Greek Air Force.

1978-1979: Fellow of the Alexander-von-Humboldt Foundation, Institute of Astronomical and Physical Geodesy, Armed Forces University, Munich.

1979-1982: visiting Professor, Chair of Higher Geodesy and Cartography, School of Rural and Surveying Engineering, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

1982: elected unanimously Ordinary Professor at the Chair of Geodetic Statistical Methods, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

1982-today: Full Professor at the Department of Geodesy and Surveying, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

Teaching activities: courses in various fields (Mathematics, Geodesy, Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing) in the following Institutions:

Department of Geodesy and Surveying, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

Department of Mineral Resources, Technical University of Crete.

Department of Urban and Regional Planning, University of Thessaly.

Department of Environmental Engineering and Natural Resources, Polytechnic of Milan.

IAG activities: Fellow. Member of 8 Special Study Groups.

Chairman: Special Study Group on "Integrated Networks",

Subcommission "Statistics", Commission on the Mathematical and Physical Foundations of Geodesy,

Joint Working Group on "Statistics and Geometry in Mixed Integer Linear Models, with Applications to GPS and InSAR".

Vice-President: Inter-Commission Committee on Theory (ICCT).

Member of editorial board "Bulletin Geodesique" and "Manuscripta Geodetica".

Research Activities: Author of about 70 scientific publications, 10 books, editor of 2 volumes.

His main research and academic interest is on Data Analysis Methods as applied to the various fields of Geodesy and Geomatics. In the last years his research is focusing on the theoretical and practical aspects of the establishment and maintenance of global reference systems and frames.
