Job Description

Job Title:Family Liaison Support

Salary:Salary determined by experience and qualifications

Accountable to:Principal

To provide, under supervision, an efficient and effective attendance system which aims to improve attendance in the school by promoting all initiatives related to contacting families on the first day of absence. Support students overcome barriers to learning both inside and outside of school, in order to achieve their full potential.

SUPPORT FOR ATTENDANCE

  1. Supervise the monitoring of all attendance registers within the Academy and the production of related statistics.
  2. Supervise the inspection of registers on a daily basis to compile lists of all students who are absent.
  3. Ensure the contact of all families on the daily list by telephone and enquire about student absence that day. The purpose of the contact is to seek an immediate return to the Academy.
  4. Supervise the preparation of the Academy standard letter and the hand delivery of that letter on the same day where contact by telephone has not been possible.
  5. Make home visits working with families where attendance patterns give consistent cause for concern.
  6. If parents are at home when the letter is hand delivered, then a verbal explanation should also be given.
  7. Keep a record of all telephone calls made and all letters delivered and provide this information on a daily basis to the Principal.
  8. Discuss with the appropriate Leadership Team, on a weekly basis, the effectiveness of the different initiatives.
  9. Manage the half termly review of attendance
  10. Participate in the comprehensive assessment of all students entering or returning to school and identify those who need extra help to overcome barriers to learning inside and outside school.
  11. To identify those students who would benefit from an action plan. Draw up and implement.
  12. To develop 1:1 relationship with students needing particular support where necessary, aimed at achieving the goal defined in the action plan.
  13. To maintain regular contact with families/carers of students in need of extra support, to keep them informed of the student’s needs and progress, and to secure positive family support and involvement.

SUPPORT FOR LEARNERS

  1. Create and maintain a purposeful, orderly and supportive environment, in accordance with lesson plans
  2. Use strategies, in liaison with the teacher, to support targeted students to achieve learning goals
  3. Assists with the planning of learning activities
  4. Monitor targeted students’ responses to learning activities and accurately records achievement/progress as directed
  5. Provides detailed and regular feedback to teachers on targeted students’ achievement, progress, problems etc.
  6. Promote good student behaviour, dealing promptly with conflict and incidents in line with established policy and encourage students to take responsibility for their own behaviour
  7. Participate in discussions with parents/carers

SUPPORT FOR THE CURRICULUM

  1. Undertakes structured and agreed learning activities/teaching programmes, adjusting activities according to targeted student responses
  2. Undertakes programmes linked to local and national learning strategies e.g. literacy, numeracy, recording achievement and progress and feeding back to the teacher
  3. Prepares, maintains and use equipment/resources required to meet the lesson plans/relevant learning activity and assists targeted students in their use

SUPPORT FOR THE ACADEMY

  1. Is aware of and complies with the policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person
  2. Is aware of and supports difference and ensure all students have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop
  3. Contributes to the overall ethos/work/aims of the Academy
  1. Appreciates and supports the role of other professionals
  2. Participates in training and other learning activities and performance development as required and attend and participates in relevant meetings as required
  3. Assist with the supervision of students out of lesson times, including before and after Academy and at lunchtime
  4. Accompanies teaching staff and students on visits, trips and out of Academy activities as required and take responsibility for a group under the supervision of the teacher

SUPPORT FOR SAFEGUARDING

  1. To assist in ensuring that child protection and safeguarding policies and procedures are correctly in place, all laid out clearly, and are accessible to all staff, parents, students and visitors
  2. To assist in ensuring that that all staff, students, and parents are familiar with, and understand, all aspects of the Academy’s safeguarding provision
  3. To assist in ensuring that the Academy operates in line with, and the staff are up to date with, all safeguarding legislation and that information, support, and resources on the topic of child protection and safeguarding are readily accessible to all staff, parents and students.
  4. Be a personal advisor to all staff, students and parents and to promote their role to ensure that everyone is aware of who they are and how to contact them
  5. Be a point of contact for any staff, students, or parents who have concerns about a child’s welfare
  6. Notify the designated Child Protection Officer(CPO) if a student with a child protection plan is absent for more than two days without explanation
  7. Contribution to the production of child protection plans
  8. Attend and/or contribute to child protection conferences
  9. Refer concerns to the relevant external agencies as required by individual circumstances under the direction of the designated CPO
  10. Be a link from the Academy to external agencies concerning safeguarding and child protection
  11. Use specialist skills and training in child protection to support the identification of possible abuse and help to decide on actions that need to be taken
  12. To assist in ensuring that all staff are taking responsibility and following procedure for the safeguarding of the Academy’s students
  13. Help to ensure that allegations against staff, pupils, parents or carers are dealt with according to statutory requirements and guidance, and as set out in the child protection policy.
  14. Obtain a First Aid at Work qualification

GENERAL

  1. The above principal accountabilities are not exhaustive and may vary without changing the character of the job or level of responsibility.
  2. The above duties may involve having access to information of a confidential nature, which may be covered by the Data Protection Act. Confidentiality must be maintained at all times.
  3. The postholder must be flexible to ensure the operational needs of the Academy are met. This includes the undertaking of duties of a similar nature and responsibility as and when required, throughout the various work places as directed.

Therefore, it is the postholder’s responsibility to take reasonable care for the Health, Safety and Welfare of him/herself and other employees in accordance with legislation and the council’s Safety Policy and Programme. Specific details are outlined in the Departmental Safety Policy.
  6. Where the postholder is disabled, every effort will be made to supply all the necessary employment aids, equipment of adaptations to enable him/her to perform the full duties of the job. If, however, a certain task proves to be unachievable then job redesign will be given full consideration.
