Inclusive Education – Support for Implementation

Website

Background

The Alberta Professional Development Consortia (ARPDC) are dedicated to promoting student learning and achievement, school improvement and parental engagement in the educational process through the provision of professional learning opportunities. The intent in creating the Inclusive Education – Support for Implementation website is to provide a variety of accessible learning opportunities (e.g., archived videos, webinars, learning guides, links to face to face learning opportunities) to support implementation of an inclusive learning environment. Another intent of the site is to “connect the dots” in terms of various initiatives and strategies that can offer support for implementation of inclusive environments. As a “partner in adult learning for students’ sake” our ongoing intent and mandate is to work with partner organizations to provide a more coordinated, collaborative and comprehensive site to access learning any time and from any place, to make use of at your own pace. We look forward to working with other pd providers to further develop/populate this site. This website has been created by ARPDC as a result of a grant from Alberta Education to support implementation.

Suggested “walk through” of the site for presentation purposes

Notes for you to Adapt and adopt as you feel appropriate for the audience you are working with.

Suggested strategy - Have site up – highlight sections identified (you may choose to highlight other areas – these sections are highlighted to:

  • Make public the role of ARPDC “support for implementation”
  • Focus on “distributed online learning” examples and how they can support job embedded learning ( e.g., videos, archived webinars, conversation guides).
  • Connect the dots between multiple projects/initiatives that have the potential to support enhanced inclusive environment.

Site image / Exact page address and ideas to highlight. Number on image correspond to notes – they will not be on the actual site.
/
  1. Focus is on “support for implementation”.
  2. Connecting the dots amongst projects and adult learning for students’ sake –focus on inclusive education “All students”
  3. Personalized accessible learning ( access adult learning at any time, from any place, and at your own pace)
  4. Each page ( most often) will start with a paragraph from Alta ed and a link to their site focused on the area being highlighted
  5. Second paragraph on most pages will focus on ARPDC and our role

/
  1. More about ARPDC – last sentence talks about cost effective. One intent of the site is to create materials that PLC, staff groups or individual teachers can access on their own time, space, pace at no cost. Materials have been developed as a result of a grant to support implementation
  2. This site was just launched in mid September. We wish to further develop and populate based on users interest/request as well as “working with partner organizations to provide you with a more coordinated, collaborative and comprehensive site”

Hover your mouse over the section on the tab bar that shares “Resources by Focus” / A number of focus areas have been identified.
Some focus on a specific group ( e.g., ESL and FNMI), some focus on instruction, ( e.g., differentiated instruction, positive behavior supports) or design ( e.g., RTI, universal design for learning ), or ministry initiative ( e.g., collaborative practices) or adult leaders ( e.g., learning coaches, school admint).
The intent is to identify focus areas that have the potential to support inclusive environments.
The next sections are going to highlight various areas on the site – you choose which ones to highlight depending on your audience/context. This is only a selection of areas – not all areas.

Universal Design for Learning

  1. Antoehr format – front pages tells you to go directly to the “WIKI” This site will be further developed as we edit/review the videos of all of the keynotes from the 3 day event. Wiki provides a lot of background about UDL
  2. Documents includes an adaption of the guide to support implementation – essential conditions – formatted around implementation support for udl.
  3. Alberta stories in action include districts highlighting their work implementing udl
  4. Each day focused on a different aspect of UDL and includes Alberta Education presentations about different initiatives/focus areas.

These sections of the website highlight different “formats” and designs. We would like to do some focus group work around how folks are using the materials. If you see any particular group/district that may be interested in being involved in the focus group it will be around becoming aware of these resources, returning to work to make use of them, then being interviewed by the researcher to determine how they were applied/used.Further information please contact Val Olekshy
