RIPTIDE TEAM TRIP UP NORTH – FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 18-SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 20TH

WHO: Our 14 & under swimmers in Silver 1, Silver 2, Junior Select, Junior, Grove, Senior and 14 & Under Senior Elite

WHAT: 2016 MN LSSC Lake Superior Plunge Meet in Duluth hosted by Lake Superior Swim Club

WHEN: The weekend of November 18th, 19th & 20th

WHERE: Lincoln Park Middle School, Duluth MN (3215 West Third Street, Duluth, MN 55806)

**Directions and Note for parents: Your GPS unit will likely put you at the corner of Third and Atlantic so, be sure to follow the meet information directions: From I35, take the 27th Ave West exit. Turn right and proceed to West Third Street. At Third Street, turn left for approximately 1/3 mile to the Lincoln Park Middle School drive. Turn right and proceed up the hill ¾ of a mile to the rear parking lot.**

WHY: This is a travel trip swim meet for our age group team as a reward based on past fundraising efforts. It is an opportunity for our 14 & under swimmers to bond as a team, have fun, swim fast and experience an away meet!!

Team/Swimmer transportation for this meet will be by bus until the bus capacity of 53 swimmers has been met - paid for by the RIPT Booster Club. Parents are asked to drive separately and then to stay with their swimmers at the hotel.

ITINERARY For the “BUS GROUP Swimmers:”

Friday – 11/18/16

Ø  Meet at Bluewater for a quick warm-up from 2:15-3:00 pm.

Ø  Team Meeting “Pep Rally” – Led by Coach Denise at 3:00 pm.

Ø  Bus leaves Bluewater Aquatic Center, Apple Valley at approximately 4:00 pm.

Ø  Swimmers bring a bag “lunch” to eat on the way. NOTE: Swimmers need to bring their own bag “lunch” for their meal that evening AND PLEASE NO PEANUT PRODUCTS! We have a few swimmers with severe nut allergies and considering we will be in a confined space we are asking that you do not bring any peanut or tree nut products on the bus. Thank you!!

Ø  Bus Arrives in Superior between roughly 7-7:30 pm.

Parents drive separately and meet their swimmers at one of the two designated hotels in Superior (two separate stops for the bus to drop off swimmers: First stop is at the Best Western and second stop is at the Holiday Inn Express).

NOTE: Of you are staying at a separate hotel, you will need to make arrangements to pick up your swimmer at one of the above hotels.

Saturday AM – 11/19/16

Ø  Saturday Morning Session Swimmers leave at:

·  7:30 am from Holiday Inn Express

·  7:45 am from Best Western

Ø  Saturday Morning Session: Warm-up Start 8:30 am. Warm-up Ends 9:20 am. Meet Start 9:30 am.

Ø  AM Bus Swimmers: Upon completion of the session, AM Bus swimmers will remain with their parents for the rest of the day.

Ø  NOTE: there will not be a return bus after the AM Session for the AM Bus swimmers, those swimmers will remain with their parents.

Ø  Afternoon Session Swimmers leave at:

·  10:30 am from Holiday Inn Express

·  10:45 am From Best Western

Ø  Afternoon Session: Warm-up Start 11:20 am. Warm-up Ends 12:20 am. Meet Start 12:30 pm. Meet Ends approximately 4:35 pm.

Ø  TEAM Dinner from approximately 5:00-6:15 PM at Old Chicago, 327 South Lake Ave, Duluth, MN

The team dinner will start upon arrival at Old Chicago immediately following the Saturday afternoon session. NOTE TO PARENTS: If your swimmer is not swimming the 1000 Freestyle on Saturday afternoon, we highly recommend that you head over to Old Chicago a little earlier than the swimmers in order to get a table (they are not taking reservations for the families). To accommodate all of our families at additional tables outside of the swimmer-only reservation, arriving before 5 pm will be helpful. The swimmers in the bus group will arrive approximately 30 minutes after the last swimmer is done with their race.

Cost of the dinner (for swimmers only) is $12 per swimmer and includes: all you can eat pizza, pop (and/or water) and a cookie OR as salad (but not both) as well as covers the cost of the tip. Parents are welcomed to stay and eat at Old Chicago or at eat any of the restaurants in the area (Grizzley’s, Green Mill, Famous Dave’s, Grandma’s, etc.) as Old Chicago may not be able to accommodate all additional family members. If your child requires a special diet, you will need to order and pay for it separately as the team dinner meal option does not offer exceptions.

Sign-up/Pay for the Team Dinner on our website in Team Unify under the “Job Sign-up” tab in the meet information page. $12 per swimmer will be billed to your TU account.

Ø  Departure back to the hotel after dinner for the PM Bus Group Swimmers. Parents must meet swimmers back at the hotel after the dinner unless they plan on taking their swimmer with them after dinner. In that case, a parent must initial the Bus Group Roster Sheet indicating they are not riding the bus back to the hotel.

Ø  Saturday PM – OPTIONAL Team Activity: Bentleyville Tour of Lights, 700 West Railroad St, Duluth, MN

“Billed as America’s Largest Free Walk Through Lighting Display, Bentleyville invites guests to stroll under the glow of over 4 million lights in a 20-acre park situated on the shores of Lake Superior, while enjoying complimentary hot cocoa, cookies, popcorn and roasted marshmallows!”

This is an optional team activity in which swimmers and their families are welcomed to attend but transportation and supervision will be the responsibility of the families. Any swimmer in the bus group who would like to attend must ride with their parent and their parent must initial the Bus Group Roster Sheet indicating they are not riding the bus back to the hotel after the dinner.

Sunday AM – 11/20/16

Ø  Sunday Morning Session Swimmers leave an hour earlier than Saturday!! The meet starts an hour earlier!!

·  6:30 am from Holiday Inn Express

·  6:45 am from Best Western

Ø  Sunday Morning Session: Warm-up Start 7:30 am. Warm-up Ends 8:20 am. Meet Start 8:30 am.

Ø  Sunday AM Swimmers: Upon completion of the session, AM Bus swimmers have two options:

o  1. Leave with their parent for the weekend. A parent must initial the Bus Group Roster Sheet if the AM Bus Group swimmer is leaving with their parent and is not returning by the bus back to Bluewater in the evening.

OR

o  2. Remain with parents for the afternoon and ride home on the bus. They must be at Lincoln Park Middle School pool by 3:15 pm. Parents are responsible for their swimmer for the afternoon session. If a swimmer would like to stay to watch the afternoon session and their parent chooses to drive back, they must stay on deck with all the other pm swimmers and coaches. The parent then needs to meet the bus back at Bluewater by the time the bus arrives to bring their swimmer home.

Sunday PM – 11/20/16 – UPDATED!

Ø  Afternoon Session Swimmers leave (an hour earlier!) at:

·  9:30 am from Holiday Inn Express

·  9:45 am From Best Western

Ø  Afternoon Session: Warm-up Start 10:25 am. Warm-up Ends 11:25 am. Meet Start 11:30 pm. Meet Ends approximately 3:20 pm.

Ø  Sunday PM Dinner: Sandwiches, chips and water will be catered in for the Bus Group Swimmers from Erberts & Gerberts on Sunday afternoon for the swimmer to eat before we leave the meet and head back to Apple Valley.

Cost is $13 - which covers the meal, additional snacks/water AND the tip for the bus driver for the weekend. All Bus Group Swimmers must pay for this even if they choose not to ride the bus home as this is the only additional cost for the bus.

Ø  Departure: Approximately 4:00 pm.

Ø  Arrive in Apple Valley: Approximately 7:00 pm – We will update once the timeline is published. Parents must meet swimmers/bus at Bluewater.

TO DO’s for the Bus Group Roster Swimmers/Parents:

  1. Sign and return the Permission Slip/Medical Release Form by Monday, November 14, 2016. Return to the Bluewater front desk or the black mailbox in the Bluewater lobby.
  2. Read, sign and return the Bus Rules Contract (describes behavior expectations on the bus, the initialing requirements for situations when swimmers will not be taking the bus, etc.) by Monday, November 14, 2016. . Return to the Bluewater front desk or the black mailbox in the Bluewater lobby.
  3. Sign-up/Pay for the Team Dinner for Saturday Night on our website on TU by Monday, November 14, 2016.
  4. Sign-up/Pay for the Bus Driver tip AND the Erberts and Gerberts dinner for Sunday PM on our website on TU by Monday, November 14, 2016.
  5. Update your SMS contact information on our TU Website. The SMS contact information includes cell phone information and email information. This is the communication tool we will be using to inform families of any last minute changes or updates for the meet weekend.
  6. BRING BAG LUNCH FOR RIDE UP NORTH on Friday, November 18, 2016.
  7. Pack additional snacks and bring water for the ride and for during the meet!
