Excel 2007

Create a Header (and Footer) for Every Worksheet in a Workbook in One Operation and notes on new 2007 features

1.  Right-click any worksheet tab to open a shortcut menu.

2.  From the displayed shortcut menu click Select All Sheets. (Alternatively, if you want to add header/footer information to selected sheets, CONTROL+Click the tabs of the sheets you want to add to the selected group.)
Notice that after your selection the word [Group] displays in Excel’s title bar to the right of the workbook name.

3.  In the bottom right corner of the Excel work space, click the Page Layout button to display the current worksheet in Page Layout view.

4.  In this view, click at the top of the worksheet, above the first worksheet row. A “Click to add header” prompt appears. Type whatever header text you want into the prompt box. Excel 2007 retains the three-box header arrangement of the 2003 version, so you can type separate text in a left box, the center box, and a right box. Or, if you enter a very long text string in the center box, it will merge itself with the left- and right-hand boxes automatically.

The footer operates in the same way.

Additional Notes

When a header or footer section is active, Excel displays a context-sensitive “Header & Footer Tools” tab that otherwise is not visible.

Possibilities in 2007 include:

·  Colored text in headers and footers – Headers and footers now support colored text formatting.

·  Different first page – A user can specify a unique header and footer for the first page. This is useful for reports with title pages or tables of contents where the header or footer might need to be different from the others.

·  Different odd and even pages – Similar to the “first page” setting, this setting allows a user to specify unique headers and footers for odd and even pages.

·  Align with page margins – A user can choose to align the header and footer margins to the page margin.

·  Scale with the document – Allows headers and footers to ignore the page scaling set for a given sheet. This is useful for multi-sheet reports that have different scaling percentages for pages but where the user would like consistent headers and footers.

·  Graphics – The insertion of a picture or picture files in a header or footer.
