The Hudson Police Department will once again sponsor the annual police training academy programs for local youth. The academy instructors will consider admission of sixth, seventh, and eighth grade Hudsonstudents as of June 2009. The mandatory orientation for both parent and cadet will be held on 7/08/2009 at 7:00pm. The orientation and program will be held at the Hudson Police Station, 62 Packard Street, Hudson, MA.

The dates and the times of the sessions are:

July 20 - July 24, 2009 (Monday thru Friday 8:00am-4:00 pm)

August 03-August 07, 2009 (Monday thru Friday 8:00am-4:00pm)

This is a "mini police academy" training experience and will be held for 40 students.

This program is modeled after the actual police academy, which police officers in Massachusetts need to complete in order to be certified as an officer.

Participants will be taught Drill and Ceremonial March, and will take part in daily physical fitness activities, including self-defense. Participants will also learn about Constitutional Law, Motor Vehicle Law, Crash Reconstruction, Firearms, and Crime Scene Investigation.

The para-military structure of the academy promotes self-defense, self-discipline, self-motivation, appreciation of responsibility, teamwork, respect for others, self-respect, pride, and to promote a more positive self-image.

Modified uniforms (t-shirts and ball caps) will be provided and required to be worn in

a neat and clean manner.Each participant will be required to provide their own wind

pants,(navy blue or black) and athletic footwear (suitable for running) which will

be worn throughout theacademy program. No fee is required; participants will be

required to provide their own transportation, daily lunches, and water bottle.

Applications are available at the Hudson High School, Hudson Police Station and Deadline for all applications is June30, 2009, at 12:00 am. A copy of a doctor's physical exam, similar to that required for participation in school athletics, must be attached to the application form. All information requested on the application form, must be completed. A copy of the doctor's physical exam or a doctor's note stating that the child is "physically fit and can participate without restriction" must be attached or the application will be considered incomplete.

Graduation for this program will be held on the Friday of each session at 3:00 p.m. at the Hudson Police Station. Parents are invited and encouraged to attend the ceremony. rev: 05/09
