Dear Colleague
SVQs for Food Manufacture
As you may be aware, Improve, the SSC for the food and drink manufacturing sector has developed an additional pathway - Operational Skills - to the Food Manufacture SVQ at level 2. SQA is considering seeking accreditation for this new SVQ and I have attached a copy of the structure for your information.
SQA’s proposal to seek accreditation for the new SVQ in Food Manufacture: Operational Skills level 2 requires support from Scottish employers/stakeholders. If this is an award you would be interested in offering, I would be grateful if you could indicate yoursupport for this proposal by completing the attached proforma, indicating likely update of the new SVQ over the next 3 years.
In addition to the new Operational Skills route, SQA has been asked to consider seeking accreditation for the Food Manufacture: Process Bakery Skills level 2. At present, we are in joint partnership with the Scottish Association of Master Bakers for the Bakery SVQs and there is no intention to change this partnership agreement. However, the centre in question has requested SQA seek accreditation to allow it to work with just one awarding body. I have therefore added the Process Bakery Skills to the attached proforma.
SQA is also working in partnership with the Scottish Federation of Meat Traders Association and will be putting forward a proposal to offer the following SVQs:
Food Manufacture: Meat and Poultry Processing Skills level 2
Food Manufacture: Butchery Retail Skills level 2
Food Manufacture: Livestock Droving Skills level 2
Food Manufacture: Meat and Poultry Processing Skills level 3
I have, therefore, attached another proforma covering the Meat and Poultry SVQs, and if you are interested in offering any of these SVQs, I would be grateful if you would complete this proforma.
If you would prefer to complete these proformas electronically, you can find them on SQA’s website by using the following link
Finally, Improve has developed National Occupational Standards and SVQ pathways for the following areas:
- Sweet confectionery
- Fish Processing
- Brewing
- Dairy
I will be in touch again once the award structures have been approved to seek your views on whether these are areas SQA should consider offering.
If you have any questions relating to the above, please get in touch.
Regards
Elaine Snell
