Is racism a problem in this modern day?

Racism has been a problem for centuries, including in modern society. We as the people of our society and communities tend to overlook this racism and replace it with criticism. In this time of age human beings are calling each other words that were used to determine what you were back in the days. According to Taylor “racism originated with the modern slave trade. Just as the slaveholders of ancient Greece and Rome Created an ideology that their barbaric slave system was ‘natural,’ so did the modern slave- owning class.”

In today’s societies you see racism a lot, weather it is on the new or even around the neighborhood, it’s still around. Some of the current racism activities are happing today and people are violently protecting. Many have been racially profiled by white male police officers witch led to young black males being shot and even killed. Media also doesn’t help with keeping everything peaceful as well; call the African males “thugs” or “gangsters.” Yet the media fails to show the positive things these so called “thugs” are doing like graduated from big Ivy League schools and colleges, also giving back to the community.

The media and government are doing a horrible job trying to control this situation. Racism has been passed on generation to generation because of the way they have been grown up. Due to current events of police brutality many African American citizens don’t feel protected at all from the police. Study’s tested whites and African Americans to see if African Americans were being put away in prison due to discrimination or due to something else. 19% of white people said discriminationis the reason why African Americans are being put in jail and %80 of the people said there is another reason why African Americans are being put in jail.

President Barrack Obama had an interview with BET and stated “racism isn’t going to change overnight.” Obama continued and added to the speech by asking young African American kids to ask their grandparents how everything was 50 years ago. The Grandparents who were asked the question responded “things got better, not good in some cases but it got better.” Obamas key to solving or finding the solution is to be patient and persistent. While some propose that the solution would involve giving minority’s greater opportunity on seeing the difference between wrong and right with racism. Most agree that racial tensions cannot be solved until members of all racial groups acknowledge issues within their groups and develop plans for better cross-cultural understandings.

African Americans have come a long way over the course of 50 years. Although racism isn’t totally gone from today’s society, it has improved and has gotten a little better. Some great solutions to try and stop and reduce racism even more is for African Americans to express their feelings of discrimination to the people respectfully and peacefully like Martin Luther King Jr. and also like Nelson Mandela. All this violence with the people and police isn’t great and should be solved by sitting down like real human beings and discussing the problems that are going on. United States is the land of the free home of the brave, not looking like that anymore.

Racism has been in the United States for centuries, slaves built this country with blood, sweat, and tears and aren’t getting acknowledge more like they should be. This government isn’t protecting the people like they should be, that’s why people are looking at violence more for change. Hard seeing young kids being shot and killed because they feel fighting is the right way to salve situations these days. Violence will not change that fact that the government and media are hiding things from the people of the United States. The people of the United States should walk hand and hand as one and change the way things are being run in this country. At the end of the day it’s the rights of the people and for the people.

Not everyone is racist and not everyone will judge someone based upon looks or color. Americans have to be patient for a better tomorrow, slowly but surely the people of the United States will solve these problems and have anymore misunderstandings anymore. When that happens Americans will see each other has one, same color, race, and gender and everyone will live better lives that way.
