STATE AND LOCAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AWARD
(Eligible for the FLC National State and Local Economic Development Award)
This award will be presented to an FLC Midwest Region member laboratory, along with an American-owned company, nonfederal government entity, and/or college or university within the Midwest Region that has developed successful initiatives for economic benefit on the state or local level.
Eligibility
- Nominees must include employees from an FLC Midwest Region member laboratory, and can include a nonfederal American organization physically located within the Midwest Region (e.g., local Chamber of Commerce, a state/local economic development group, private company, public or private college).
- The reference to “university” applies to any academic institution that is involved in technology transfer.
- The successful transfer of federal technology is desirable, but not mandatory, for this award.
Criteria and Evaluation
A maximum of 100 points will be awarded from the following criteria:
- Attributes of each party involved in the technology transfer-related initiative. – 10 points
- Innovative approach to addressing a technology transfer-related need, and its demonstrable results. – 20 points
- Context in which the initiative operates, why it was created, and the geographic area it serves. – 10 points
- Nominee roles, goals, objectives and contributions. – 20 points
- Innovation, creativity, type of technology transfer mechanisms used. – 20 points
- Impact to federal labs, economic benefits, public gains. – 20 points
Submission Guidelines
- Nominations must be submitted by the Laboratory Representative for the laboratory involved in the technology transfer effort.
- News articles, press releases, video clips, and url addresses will not be accepted as supporting documentation.
- DO NOT include proprietary information. All submissions will become the property of the FLC, which reserves the right to use the submission’s content in its marketing and publications.
- All completed submissions must be sent to y 6:00 p.m. EDT (5:00 p.m. CDT) on June 30, 2017. No submissions will be accepted after this time. The nominator will receive an electronic acknowledgment upon completion of entry.
Announcement of Results
The winners of the 2017 FLC Midwest Regional Awards will be announced July 31, 2017. Laboratories submitting nominations will be notified prior to the official announcement.
Award Presentation
- Winners will be honored at an official ceremony at the FLC Midwest and Southeast Regional Meeting in the Cincinnati area on August 29-30, 2017.

2. Specifically identify and describe the partnership, the innovative approach to addressing a technology transfer-related need, and demonstrable results of the initiative. (20 points)
3. Describe and include background on the context in which the initiative operates and why it was created including information about the geographic area the initiative serves. (10 points)
- Describe the specific roles, goals, objectives, and contributions of each nominee. (20 points)
5. Describe any innovation or creativity demonstrated by the nominee(s), including technology transfer mechanisms utilized. (20 points)
6. Describe what has been the impact to the federal labs and economic benefit of the initiative to date, how that impact is determined, and any public gains achieved. (20 points)
