Introduction

TREC Ireland is pleased to invite all competitors to the Punchestown centre for the TREC Ireland Open Championships 2016. This competition includes a FITE European Cup class (Level 4) as well as qualifier classes for the TREC GB Championships 2017.

The competition will consist of three phases, the winners being those with the highest points accumulated across the three phases. Maximum possible total from all three phases is 460 points.

Competitors can expect to be riding across varied terrain which will include quiet country roads, tracks, fields, multi-use paths, forestry paths. We must stress the need to keep gates closed and to ensure that you follow the Country Code.

Competitor information

Due to recent rule changes, please note the following:

Ø  Outside assistance is NOT allowed in any phase of the competition

Ø  PTV: competitors must STOP and inform the relevant judge if they are not attempting an obstacle

Ø  POR: it is the responsibility of the competitor to collect and retain their record card in the map room

Some rule breaches, including those noted above, may result in elimination. It is the competitors’ responsibility to be familiar with the current Trec Ireland Rule Book.

Withdrawals: TREC Ireland Refund Policy

Events are organized based on number of riders and volunteers and certain costs are fixed. Due to this refunds will only be made for cancellations notified prior to the 22nd July 2016. A 50% refund will be made to cancellations between 23rd July and 29th July 2016. Any cancellations made after 29th July cannot be refunded.

Class 8: Qualifier for TREC GB Championships 2017. Levels 2, 3 and 4 included. Riders must have public liability insurance.

Class 9: Team Competition (Entries by 8pm on Friday 5th August 2016, entry is €5 per rider).

*Only open to competitors who have completed minimum 2 PORs run by a FITE affiliated organisation.

Special Classes

We are very proud to be introducing for the first time the Orla O’Reilly Memorial Shield for Best Newcomer. This will be a Perpetual Shield to be awarded at the TREC Ireland Open Championships (Punchestownin2016) to the Best Newcomerin memory of our friend Orla O'Reilly, and sponsored by the O'Reilly family and Jimmy McKinney.The Best Newcomer will be anyone who is competing at a National Level for the first time. Orla will always be remembered for being on hand to helpany rider but she took particular interest in helping & reassuringnew riders. On many occasions she travelled to National competitions to support and encourage new riders from Donegal/North West TREC. Her continuous and never ending support will never be forgotten; she was always there with an encouraging smile and positive word.

Equipment

Body protectors

Riders taking part in Class 8 and riders 18years and under must wear a body protector for the PTV phase of the competition.

Hats

All riders must wear hats for all phases which comply with current standards and which have been tagged with TREC Ireland tags, as per the updated Trec Ireland Rule Book (2nd edition, version 2016). We will be tagging at equipment check.

Please refer to the Trec Ireland Rule Book for mandatory and additional equipment.

Catering

Geraldine Creighton will be running her Punchestown Café during our event. She has a wide range of sandwiches, home-made soup and a great selection of delicious cakes. Hot and cold drinks also available. Helpers will be asked to complete an order form in advance of the day and tokens will be provided.

Social

We are thrilled to be able to host a Spit Roast Marquee in Punchestown Racecourse itself for riders and helpers on Saturday night – further details to follow. All helpers will receive a meal ticket for the social on Saturday night. Extra tickets for friends, partners etc. who are not volunteering can be purchased for €15.

Accommodation

A list of accommodation available in the area is attached to the end of this schedule.

Stabling

Stabling is available in the H Block of Punchestown at €20/€30/€40 per 1/2/3 nights respectively. You must provide your own hay, feed and bucket for water. Payment is to be made directly to Punchestown through Stacey Forde on or 045 897 704.

Camping/Corralling

Corralling and camping are available in Ballinagappa House Stables in Clane (approx. 15km from Punchestown).

Horse Hire

Horse hire is available from Hollywood Equestrian Centre (Ray 085 1117448) and Calliaghstown Equestrian Centre (Anthony 087 272 5913). Should you have no success with hire at these stables, please contact Sheaffe on 00353(0)872034236 or and we may be able to source more options.

Passports

It is a legal requirement to carry a passport when a horse is used for the purposes of competition. If a horse is transported without a passport when being used for competition purposes an offence is being committed and prosecution is a possibility. Passport will be required at vetting.

Registration of Equine Premises

Include the registration of equine premises number on the entry form. If you have not yet

registered your equine premises, you can obtain information and the registration form at

http://www.agriculture.gov.ie/animalhealthwelfare/animalwelfare/registrationofpremisesanimals/registrationofhorsepremises/. The registration takes approximately 2-3 weeks.

There is no fee to register. The reason for registering and record keeping is so as to enable

the Department of Agriculture to have information on the location of horses and their

contacts with other horses in order that in the event of a disease outbreak, owners can be

identified and advised of any necessary precautions. TREC Ireland may be asked to provide a list of registration numbers for all horses/ponies that participated/attended the event. If you do not yet have a registration number at the time you are submitting your entry, you may submit your entry anyway. You will have the opportunity to provide your equine number on the day. If your application is still being processed at the time of the event you can still participate, but will still be required to provide the number after the event.

Vetting

All horses/ponies will be vetted 2-3 times during the competition. Vetting will be carried out in accordance with TREC Ireland and TREC GB rules. Riders are required to familiarize themselves with these rules.

1.  Vetting will commence at 8.00am on Saturday 6th August for all levels

2.  On-route vetting will take place for levels 3 and 4 during the POR

The PTV course will be available for walking on Friday afternoon but will NOT be officially open until 8.00am on Saturday morning.

Official Queries

Queries and complaints will be dealt with in accordance with TREC Ireland rules (section 3.8) and TREC GB rules and riders are required to familiarise themselves with these rules. Any queries pertaining to scoring must be raised within thirty minutes of scores being posted. All queries must be directed to the relevant Technical Delegate.

Code of Ethics

TREC Ireland’s ‘Code of Ethics & Good Practice for Children’s Sport’ will be adhered to for this event. Please note the following changes to previous events:

Ø  All parents must fill in ‘Junior Participants Form’ (page 29 of the Code).

Ø  All parents and junior participants must fill in the entry form with the understanding that they ‘agree to abide by TREC Ireland’s code of ethics and good practice’ – this also allows TREC Ireland to include photos of the junior participants on the internet and any newspapers such as The Irish Field.

Ø  Anybody involved in any way with the event on any or all days, must sign in using the provided sign in sheet (in the secretary’s tent).

Ø  Any junior helper must either be accompanied by two adults, an adult family member, or must fill out p.18 of the code, ‘Travelling Leader’ form. It is up to the junior helper to get this filled out and NOT the duty of the organizer.

All TREC competitions rely on the support of volunteer judges and helpers.

Can you or anyone coming with you lend a hand? Please enclose with your entry, details of anyone who would be available to help with stewarding or judging, before or during the event. Competitors can also help us with setting up, clearing equipment away, or judging the PTV or MA for other Levels. No judging qualification necessary – we are grateful for all offers of help and you will learn lots from the inside! Even a couple of hours’ help can make a difference and there are lots of jobs suitable for non-horsey mums/dads/partners. We provide all volunteers with a free lunch pack.
