In-Home Assistance Agencies

Can generally be divided into three types, though it is important to ask any agency to outline all of their services and programs to determine what might be pertinent for you.

Home Health Agencies: Provide comprehensive home health services such as skilled nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, medical social work and certified nursing assistants (CNA). They are generally Medicare-certified and usually also accept Medicaid as well as other insurances. Private pay arrangements are possible.

• Case Management Services: Comprehensive assessment of and assistance with needs related to the whole person, usually with the goal of assisting persons to remain living at home. • Meals on Wheels (MOW):

Home-delivered hot meals available Monday through Friday.

Frozen meals may be available for weekends or special circumstances. Other services provided may include minor home maintenance/repair, and the provision of pet food and nutritional supplements, such as Ensure. No charge for those 60 years of age and older.

• Medicaid pays for Personal Care Services (PCS), a program that provides CNAs to assist with daily bathing, dressing and other tasks, and for the Community Alternatives Program (CAP), a more comprehensive in-home assistance service for persons at risk
