and to give His life a ransom for many.Mk. 10:45

  1. Jesusgave himself for our sins…Gal 1:4

That He might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father:

The church of God, which He hath purchased with His own blood.

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female:

for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

All have become His very “own” – Who gave Himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness

and to purify for himself a people that are His very own.Tit. 2:14, NIV

  1. Jesus’ Possession of the Church – “His own”Jn. 13:1

    Alone He drained the bitter cupAnd suffered there for me.
  2. It was alone the Saviour stoodIn Pilate’s judgment hall;
    Alone the crown of thorns He woreForsaken thus by all.

Alone upon the cross He hungThat others He might save;

Forsaken then by God and manAlone, His life He gave.

Alone, alone, He bore it all alone;
He gave Himself to save His own,

He suffered, bled and died alone, alone.Ben H. Price

REFLECTIONS FOR THE WEEKR. 351

Jesus Gave Himself...

A Ransom for all;

For our Sins;

For the Church;

For Us;

For Me.

i. e. Jesus died for us/for you/for me. Rom. 6:3-8

  1. 3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into His death?

4 Therefore we are buried with Him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of His death, we shall be also in the likeness of His resurrection:

6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.

7 For he that is dead is freed from sin.

8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him.

1 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, Col. 3:1-5

where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.

2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.

3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.

4 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with Him in glory.

5 Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:

Are you dead, buried and risen with Christ?REFLECT

  1. Someone once said:

If Jesus gave Himself and died for me, the least I can do is to live for Him.

Perhaps you would like to join this person and sing the following sincerely

from your heart as you consider once again that He gave Himself for you.REFLECT

Living for Jesus, a life that is true,Striving to please Him in all that I do;
Yielding allegiance, glad hearted and free,This is the pathway of blessing for me.

Refrain

O Jesus, Lord and Savior, I give myself to Thee,
For Thou, in Thy atonement, didst give Thyself for me.
I own no other Master, my heart shall be Thy throne.
My life I give, henceforth to live, O Christ, for Thee alone.

Living for Jesus Who died in my place,Bearing on Calvary my sin and disgrace;
Such love constrains me to answer His call,Follow His leading and give Him my all.

Refrain

Living for Jesus, wherever I am,Doing each duty in His holy Name;
Willing to suffer affliction and loss,Deeming each trial a part of my cross.

Refrain

Living for Jesus through earth’s little while,My dearest treasure, the light of His smile;
Seeking the lost ones He died to redeem,Bringing the weary to find rest in Him.
