Dear Students and Parents,
Welcome to AP English Language and Composition. I am pleased that you are accepting the challenge of Advanced Placement work. As you are probably aware, our AP classes are designed to prepare our highly motivated students for the national College Board Advanced Placement Exam. These exams allow students to earn college credit. Equally as important, the course is designed to help students become “skilled readers of prose written in a variety of periods, disciplines, and rhetorical contexts” and to help students become “skilled writers who compose for a variety of purposes” (The College Board, AP English Course Description, May 2008, p. 6). Please read and discuss the following policies:
AP students are expected to do a significant amount of reading and preparation outside the classroom. They must be prepared to participate in class discussions and activities.
AP students must realize that the class cannot slow down if two or three students do not understand a lesson or concept. It is the responsibility of those students to make an appointment for tutoring on their time.
AP students are expected to take criticism gracefully. There will be a strong emphasis placed on teacher and peer critique.
AP students are expected to show a high level of commitment to learning.
AP students must have a class average of at least a 60 to be eligible for UIL activities.

/ Twitter: Students are required to create and maintain a Twitter account for my class. This is part of our classroom and will be utilized as an instructional tool for students to enhance student learning outside of the traditional classroom experience. Assignments, links to articles, discussion questions and announcements of any kind, etc. will be posted on my classroom twitter account. It is also the easiest and most efficient way to interact with me with any questions or concerns. It is intended to be an easy way to communicate and also add a little fun to the classroom experience. Please add me @mrsb_english3
