Job Title: Graphic designer

Responsible to: Senior graphic designer

Overall Purpose of Job

To work in a creative team which is responsible for the production of Mencap's publications and promotional materials. To contribute to the management and development of the Mencap brand.

Principal Accountabilities

·  Design brochures, leaflets, posters, powerpoint presentations, research and promotional material for Mencap’s internal and external communications activities.

·  Conception and development of creative designs whilst working within and developing Mencap's existing corporate identity.

·  Manage projects from client brief to completion, liasing with client and other team members throughout including project administration.

·  Working with the web team, support the development of Mencap's website and other multimedia products.

·  Ensuring consistency of style and design of all Mencap material.

·  Art direct photographers, film-makers and illustrators.

·  Ability to provide cover for team's administration using PC based system.

General

·  Work with members of the team to ensure deadlines are met on projects.

·  Actively participate as a member of the creative team and communications department.

·  Keep abreast of events and changes in Mencap.

·  Ensure new media is used as an effective means of communication.

·  Abide by Mencap’s equal opportunities policies at all times.

·  Abide by Health and Safety requirements of organisation and legislation.

·  Undertake other appropriate duties as requested by Creative manager.

·  Knowledge of learning disability issues D

·  Understanding of ways of making information accessible D

Skills:

·  Sound knowledge of typography with excellent typographic skills E

·  Excellent communication and organisational skills E

·  InDesign, Photoshop, Quark, Illustrator, Word and Adobe skills E

·  Sound knowledge of artworking and print production E

·  Project management and client-handling skills E

·  Internet and web design skills (Dreamweaver/Flash) E

·  Powerpoint presentation design skills D

·  Proofing skills D

Experience:

·  Two years' professional experience in a design
consultancy/in-house studio E

·  Experience of implementing corporate identities E

·  Experience of working with a creative team E

·  Experience of new media E

Personal Qualities:
