Grade One & One/Two

Ms. Carty,Mrs. Hillier and Mrs. Houston

Roland Michener Public School 2016/2017

We would like to welcome you and your child to our grade one classes and our grade one/two class. We are looking forward to getting to know each student and we are very excited about the enjoyable learning opportunities ahead. This will be a memorable year with lots of fun things planned.

Medical Needs/Lunch Routines

Please let us know of any medical needs that your child may have. There are currently children at our school with nut, shellfish and sesame seed allergies. With many students with life threatening peanut allergies in our school we are asking you to not send in any nuts or nut products, including WOW butter. Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our students safe.

We are encouraging students to help our school environment by bringing in a litter-less lunch. Any lunch wrappers will be returned in your child’s lunch bag.

Safety Message

Parents please ensure that you have reviewed with your child your expectation for their behaviour when walking or riding the bus to and from school. It is also important that they have emergency contact numbers in their backpack or memorized for reference if an emergency were to arise.

If your child is late for school or needs to be taken out early for an appointment, please indicate in your child’s agenda so that we are aware and so that we can minimize interruptions to the classroom. Please check in with the office and someone will let us know of your arrival. It is important that you do not come upstairs to drop them off or pick them up.

We appreciate and value your support; however, you are a stranger to most of our students. Student safety is our number one concern. Whenever you need to enter our school, your first stop should always be the office. Thank you for your understanding and support.

Volunteers

Roland Michener Public School values our volunteers. If you would like to volunteer at the school a current Criminal Reference Check must be filed at the office. Prior to applying at the Police Station you will need to request a letter from the office to bring along with you.

Agenda Planners

School Agendas will be on sale all month ~ they are being sold for $5.00.

Agenda planners will be used as a daily organizational tool between home and school. It is important to read the daily message and initial it with your signature so that we recognize that you have read the message and understood it. If you have questions or concerns we encourage you to send a note in the front agenda pocket. This pocket is also used for returning school forms and money. Please remember to place forms and money (cheques are written out to Roland Michener Public School) in an envelope with your child’s name and teacher printed on the front. If you are sending in cash, please provide the exact amount.

School Supplies

Your child will need to bring in a pair of indoor running shoes for school. It is important that these shoes are appropriate for participating in gym class. We recommend Velcro or slip-ons unless your child can confidently tie up their own laces.

In June there was a suggested school supply list. Please let us know if your child did not receive this list. Some items that were included on this list were scissors, glue sticks, and pencils.

Wednesday Envelopes

Your child will be bringing home a clear folder with their name on it every Wednesday. In this folder you will find important information from our school and classroom. Please read over and send back any forms that need to be signed with the folder by the Friday.

Monthly Newsletters

Classroom newsletters and calendars will be placed on our school website at the beginning of each month. Please indicate if you will need a hard copy of our class and school newsletter. You can let us know by writing us a note in your child’s agenda. Our school website is .
