We have come to praise God, who has done wonderful things among us.

God calls each of us.

But we are often reluctant to heed the call.

Almighty God, you have called us into your church to be your servants in the service of others. Forgive us for falling short of your call. We have loved ourselves more than you and our neighbor. We have been more concerned with budgets than with justice and peace. We have been more ready to talk about Christ than to live like Christ. Whether you are worshiping at Westminster for the first time or returning for a visit,

Following our worship service, we invite you to meet today’s “ambassador,” Anne Gunn, at the back of the sanctuary. She will have a gift for you, and can share information regarding our many ministries for children, youth and adults. She can also guide you to the hospitality area to enjoy fellowship or lead you on a tour of the church.

Children are welcome in worship! Westminster’s Kids’ Notes and worship bags are available each Sunday from the ushers. Kids’ Notes, a weekly companion to Westminster’s morning worship, emphasizes listeningand seeing during worship. The bags include storybooks for children of all ages, coloring paper and crayons, a children’s bulletin for those age three to six, and bookmarks for hymns and Scripture.

The Lord’s Supper is celebrated the first Sunday of every month at both services.

Worship Aids– You may obtain large print Presbyterian Hymnals and hearing devices from any usher.

The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan often seem far away, and we may neglect to realize that Americans, as well as Iraqis, Afghans and members of coalition forces, continue to die each day. As Christians, we are called to pray for the spreading of peace and justice and an end to violence. Westminster’s Men’s Fellowship Special Evening Event – next Sunday, January 31

Rob Prestowitz, Executive Director of Urban Promise, will visit Westminster to share the mission of the WilmingtonUrbanPromiseSchool. The main focus of his presentation will be on their Intern program highlighting international students from Africa. Gathering will be at 5 p.m. in the Meeting Room next to the Chapel, followed by a light meal and presentation. A $5 donation will cover the cost of food. Meeting is open to all men, women and youth. Our Mission Emphasis for January is “Sharing Our Plenty”

Despite the recent snowfalls and the bitterly cold weather, we are only beginning the winter season and there are many in our community who need food and clothing. Please take the opportunity to bring non-perishable food and your extra clothing to Westminster so that we can share our plenty with others. “There is no one so blessed that she/he has no needs. Every Sunday in January is Food Sunday Because of the extreme weather and high unemployment, the food closets that we support, Hanover Presbyterian and St. Stephens Lutheran, need our help. We ask that you think of every Sunday in January as the day you will bring items to church to help fill this great need. When you are shopping for yourself, could you please pick up any of these items:cereal, rice, pasta, beans,canned milk, peanut butter, spaghetti sauce, tuna fish, vegetables, soups, drink mixes, toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, combs, diapers, paper towels. These items fly off the shelves at the food pantries!You will find collection boxes inside all doorways at church.

Clothing Drive - If you needed a reason to clean out closets and simplify,please gather up all your extra items and bring them to Westminster to help keep others warm and clothed. Greatly needed items are coats, sweaters, shoes, pants of all ages and sizes. Pleasegive particular attention to cold weather clothes. Your donationswill go to The Clothing Bank of Delaware. You will find collection boxes near the receptionist's desk and in Community Hall. The last day of the Clothing Drive is next Sunday, January 31.

Dr. Sue Makin returns from Malawi. After many years of service in Malawi andCongo,Dr. Sue Makin has returned to the United States and will be with us on Sunday, February 7th.We have planned a luncheon in her honor at 12:00 p.m.Join us in honoring Dr. Makin’s years of life-saving service in Malawi and Congo. Blessing of the Backpacks Update - With the funds collected through the generous donations to this project, Westminster has made a financial contribution to ShortlidgeAcademy in support of their mentoring program (called MentorMe!). This program is designed to help students in grades 3 through 5 in the areas of reading, math and writing. Linda Thomas, principal of ShortlidgeAcademy, has expressed a great need for mentors for this program. Each mentoring session is 30 minutes long, and training is provided.
