We tend to teach in the way we like to learn ourselves. However, not everyone learns the same way. This session will explore four major learning styles and strategies for meeting the needs of those styles in our classrooms.

This session will focus on a formula for designing an effective lesson, as well as teaching techniques and methods to optimize student learning and engagement.

The session will describe how teachers are to usetheconfidentialaccommodationplan as well as disability services available for faculty to support students’ learning.

2:00 Student Feedback on Teaching (Roberta Burke)

Review the criteria that students use to provide feedback to faculty at the end of a course and explore methods of obtaining fast feedback throughout the term.

A panel of college faculty members will share their own techniques for classroom management.

9:00 Designing Effective Assessments (Roberta Burke, Faculty Development)

Assessment is central to the quality of an effective teaching/learning environment and is the ultimate “reward” by which we measure students’ performance. Participants will identify indicators for effective assessment, student expectations and student perspectives in regard to assessment, and develop a framework for creating and monitoring assessment practices relevant to outcomes and curriculum design.

2:30 How does e-Learning enhance classroom learning? (Pat Anderchek and Andrew Connery,

e-Learning Services, CTL)

In our institutional move to Blended Learning, the role of the learning management system and complementary learning technologies is critical. This session will introduce you to our new system- "e-Learn@Mohawk", as well as other technologies, including clickers, testing and quizzing activities, games, and tablets. You will also begin to explore beginning concepts and questions to consider when planning your online learning space.
