3. DOCLINE Update (Bev Brown)
CISTI is developing its strategic plan for 2005-2010. One of the highlights in the plan will be an emphasis on links and collaborations with other organizations in order to provide broader access to information.
Work has already started in this direction:
* CISTI is loading bibliographic information from the catalogues of 4 Far East partners (SunMedia in Japan and libraries in Korea, Taiwan and China). Clients will receive documents from these journals in the same time frame and at the Direct Supply cost - just as if they came from CISTI's collection.
* The Federal Science eLibrary is a collaborative initiative of the 5 major STM departments in the federal government and CISTI. The eLibrary would provide more electronic STM journal content to federal government scientists and researchers. CISTI is taking a lead in preparing the business case for discussion with Treasury Board Secretariat.
4. CHLA Conference (Margaret Quirie)
Congratulations were given to Jessie for receiving the CHLA Outstanding Achievement Award at the CHLA conference.
Margaret Quirie attended the Chapter president’s luncheon on behalf of Becky. At the luncheon a national license with Cochrane was discussed. CHLA also decided that a salary survey would not be done and that CHLA would just use SLA’s salary survey instead. There was the suggestion that OVHLA should merge with the Kingston area group however no discussion about this has happened yet.
5. UNYOC Conference (Becky Skidmore, Sascha Davis)
The UNYOC conference will be held in Ottawa from October 13th – 15th at the Delta hotel. The Continuing Education for the conference will be held on the 13th. The education courses being offered are:
– Recreating Services with New Technologies presented by Stephen Abrahms and Jane Dysart (full day).
– How to Teach What Learners Want to Know presented by Rita Vine (half day).
Jessie McGowan will be speaking in the afternoon on the 14th, and Deborah Scott-Douglas and Margaret Quirie will be participating in a session entitled “Extreme Library Makeovers”.
Volunteers will be contacted to assist in local arrangements. We will be contacting those who already put forward their names but please follow up with Becky or Sascha if you haven’t already volunteered and would like to do so.
6. Web Site Update/OVHLA Union List (Risa Shorr, Mireille Ethier-Danis)
The website is now live at:
There is a union list on the site however the holdings from non-Docline members need to be provided to Risa. If you have any suggestions of other information that could be included on the website please let Risa or Mireille know.
7. Electronic TOCs @ The Ottawa Hospital demo (Risa Shorr)
Risa presented to the group an electronic table of contents project that Library Services at The Ottawa Hospital has started to provide to hospital departments. The table of contents is created in Inmagic and pushed to users through a web page. If you would like more information on this please contact Risa at .
8. Continuing Education (Becky Skidmore)
The systematic review course provided by CCOHTA in April was very well received. OVHLA plans to purchase the “Expert Searcher” video from MLA. This will be available for collective viewing or borrowing within the group.
Becky asked the group that if there is an interest in a particular course or if you have skills that could be shared with the group to please contact the new Executive. Also, there is the possibility of using UNYOC or CHLA grants, which have been accessed in the past for larger name CE events.
9. Executive Elections (Becky Skidmore)
Becky has stepped down as President. Margaret Quirie has been elected into the position. Sascha Davis has stepped down as Secretary and Isabelle LeBlanc of Cisti has been elected into the position.
A new position of CE Coordinator has been developed which Sascha has been elected into.
10. Roundtable (All)
