My teaching experience at Central University of Venezuela, Miami Dade College, and University of Central Florida has been on General Chemistry, Lecture and Laboratory; Physical Chemistry, Lecture and Laboratory, Spectroscopy, and Plasma Chemistry. The last two courses have been taught at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Classes have ranged from ten to four hundred fifty students. Resources used in classes have included technology and multimedia.
Product of my teaching work there are several study guides for students and two booklets, Chemistry Fundamentals IA, ISBN 978-0-7575-5500-8, and Chemistry Fundamentals IB, ISBN 978-0-7575-5693-7, Published by Kendall-Hunt Publishing Co. Second edition, 2012. ISBN 978-1-4652-0064-8.
I have been coordinator or member of the Jury Committees responsible for evaluating academic promotion-related work of about ten Faculties at the Central University of Venezuela. I have also been coordinator or member of the Jury Committees responsible for evaluating thesis of tens of students, both graduate and undergraduate.
I have been leader or collaborator of ten research projects in laser spectroscopy, plasma chemistry, and water treatment. The funds for the projects have been c.a. one million US dollars and have been supplied by Central University of Venezuela, state foundations, and the oil industry.
Other experience has been as referee of publications for Energy & Fuels, Journal of Physical Chemistry, Venezuelan Scientific Acta, and the Journal of the Venezuelan Chemistry Society.
As Associate Chair and Undergraduate Coordinator of the Chemistry Department, University of Central Florida, I have been devoted to many aspects of the undergraduate program, such as advising students, conducting orientations for new and transfer students, program assessment, and course scheduling.
Recently, I have coordinated the efforts to submit the proposal of a biochemistry track to the BS Chemistry Program of UCF. The track has been approved by the university administration.
Mentoring junior faculty in teaching methodologies has also been part of my activities.

RESEARCH ON:
1) Application of low pressure (cold) plasmas, produced by means of electrical discharges, to petrochemical processes. Use of non-equilibrium plasmas and ozone to improve quality of hydrocarbons. Conversion of sub-products of refinery processes. Use of plasmas for the induced conversion of natural gas and production of synthesis gas. Application of non-equilibrium oxygen, water, and methane plasmas to upgrade hydrocarbons. Detection of active species (radicals, ions, etc.) in plasmas by means of optical emission and laser spectroscopy.
2) Molecular spectroscopy, especially laser spectroscopy of diatomic molecules: Laser Induced Fluorescence, Laser Absorption. Fundamental studies leading to the description of the molecules in terms of their potential curves, Franck-Condon Factors, etc. Raman spectroscopy of catalysts and organometallic compounds.
3) Wastewater treatment, particularly from the oil industry, by means of technologies based on ozone.
