manufactured.
UL 558-1998,
Internal-Combustion-Engine-Powered
Industrial Trucks
This standard was first listed in the October 25,
1996 issue of Standards Action with the
following scope:
Covers the fire safety aspects of industrial
trucks with internal-combustion engines, such
as tractors, platform-lift trucks, fork-lift trucks,
and other specialized vehicles for industrial
use. These requirements do not cover other
possible safety aspects of such equipment.
These requirements do not cover farm or road
vehicles or automotive vehicles for highway
use. Internal-combustion engine-powered
industrial trucks covered by these requirements
are identified as follows:
Types G, D, LP, and G/LP - Trucks fueled
with gasoline (G), diesel fuel (D),
liquefied petroleum gas (LP), or either
gasoline or liquefied petroleum gas
(G/LP), having fuel, electrical, and exhaust
ANSI/SAE J2226-APR98 (RMAY00),
Internal Combustion Engines - Piston
Rings - Steel Rectangular Rings
There is no standard equivalent to this SAE
Standard. However, SAE J2226 is similar to
and represents an extension of SAE J1998
(equivalent to ISO Standard 6622/2 TR). The
SAE Standard specifies the essential
dimensional features of Type B barrel faced
steel rectangular piston rings. Only fully faced
and inlaid coated rings are included, consistent
with current U.S. practice. The requirements of
this SAE Standard apply to steel piston rings of
reciprocating internal combustion engines, up
to and including 200 mm diameter and 4.5 mm
width.

Rings – General Specifications
Differences, where they exist, are shown in
Appendix A. This SAE Standard specifies the
general characteristics of piston rings and
individual dimensional criteria, which are
specified as appropriate in the documents in
Section 2. This document also provides a
system for coding, designation, and marking of
piston rings. This document applies to the
manufacture of piston rings up to and including
200 mm diameter for reciprocating internal
combustion engines. It also applies to piston
rings for compressors working under similar
conditions.

Material Specifications
Differences, where they exist, are shown in
Appendix A. This SAE Standard establishes a
classification of materials intended for the
manufacture of piston rings based on
mechanical properties and the stresses that
these materials are capable of withstanding.
This document applies to the manufacture of
piston rings up to and including 200 mm
diameter for reciprocating internal combustion
engines. It also applies to piston rings for
compressors working under similar conditions.

Inspection Measuring Principles
Differences, where they exist, are shown in
Appendix A. This SAE Standard defines the
measuring principles to be used for measuring
piston rings. It applies to piston rings up to and
including 200 mm diameter for reciprocating
combustion engines. These inspection
measuring principles may also be used for
piston rings for compressors working under
analogous conditions.
ANSI/SAE J1588-APR98 (RMAY00),
Internal Combustion Engines – Piston
Rings – Vocabulary
Differences, where they exist, are shown in
Appendix A with associated rationale. This SAE
Standard defines the most commonly used
terms for piston rings. These terms designate
either types of piston rings or certain
characteristics and phenomena of piston rings.
The terms and definitions apply to piston rings
for reciprocating internal combustion engines
and compressors working under analogous
conditions.

Internal Combustion Engine Driven
Cut-Off Machines - Safety Requirements
This standard applies to portable, hand-held
gasoline powered-machines using a rotating
cut-off wheel that is centre mounted on and
driven by a spindle shaft, which are designed
for cutting construction materials such as
asphalt, concrete, stone, and metal.
