Project Title: 4U App
Project Description:
The 4U App will be an application for iPhones and tablets that will help people with a mental disadvantage. We first thought of this when a new student came to our school who has such a problem. She is in constant need of assistance in finding her way around school, and in knowing what she should be doing at different times of the day. Sometimes she gets uneasy when she is unsure of where she should go and how she should get there. We want to make something to keep her safe and happy!
Model Description:
The model will have a map of an area, a time table, and a way of determining the devices location as it is moved around. Also, it will flash up pictures of faces of teachers who are in different rooms. As time progresses, the app will alert the user to where they need to go, what they need to bring, and what they’ll be doing when they get there.
(In addition, the app can include learning games that can be used during the day, reminders about activities, and extras that might be needed as the device is tested.)
Variables Used:
A map of the school will show an arrow (or an avatar) that represents where they’re located, a clock that progresses through the day, a time schedule to show classes and events, and reference points throughout the school map that will allow the device to find its location.
Computations and Mathematics:
Geometry to aid the device in finding its location based upon recognized reference points. We had an instructor at the Kickoff describe to us how a device could use pictures sensed as it moves in a room enable it to calculate its exact location.
