The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at JordanUniversity of Science &Technology (JUST)/ King Abdullah University Hospital (KAUH) provides a full range of clinical services to children and adults.The staff of sixOral and Maxillofacial consultant surgeons not only provides the most up-to-date, high quality patient care, but also conducts innovative research and teaches at JordanUniversity of Science &Technology. Consultations and Surgical procedures are performed at our modern, fully-equipped KAUH in Irbid.

What is Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS)?

Maxillofacial refers to the face and jaws, which along with the mouth comprise the areas of expertise of an Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon.Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) is the specialty that includes the diagnosis, surgical, and adjunctive treatment of diseases, injuries and defects, including both the functional and aesthetic aspects of the hard and soft tissues of the oral and maxillofacial region.

What this really means is that we deal with the management of problems from the upper part of the neck up to the orbits excluding the nasopharynx and larynx which are the province of the ENT surgeons. In this area, we do overlap with many other medical specialties including general surgery, plastic and reconstructive surgery, otorhinolaryngology and ophthalmology

Capabilities

OMFS surgeons evaluate and treat the complete range of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery problems in the fully integrated multi-specialty JUST/KAUH. State-of-the-art technology is available to evaluate and manage temporomandibular joint problems, growth abnormalities,Cleft lip and palate deformities, traumatic defects, vascular anomalies, head and neck cancer, infections, and the atrophic maxilla and mandible in preparation for implants.

Computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging, nuclear scanning, computerized cephalometric analysis, and outcome prediction are all easily available.

Areas of expertise of OMFS include the following:

  1. Facial and dentoalveolar infections. 2. Impacted and malpositioned teeth.

3. Maxillofacial trauma. 4. Temporomandibular joint disorders.

5. Dental implants and general pre-prosthetic surgery.

6. Pathological lesions of the oral & maxillofacial region.

7. Vascular anomalies of the oral & maxillofacial region.

8. Cancer of the mouth and jaws.9. Salivary gland disorders.

10. Maxillofacial cosmetic surgical procedures. 11. Cleft lip and palate deformities.

12. Acquired and developmental dentofacial deformities causing malocclusions.

13. Surgical reconstruction following hard or soft tissue loss from trauma, infection or pathology. 14. Facial pain.

ما هي جراحة الفم و الوجه و الفكين؟

هي ذالك التخصص الذي يشمل التشخيص والمعالجة الجراحية والطبية للأمراض, والإصابات والعيوب من ناحيه وظيفية و تجميلية للأنسجة الرخوة وعظام منطقة الفم و الوجه و الفكين. وبالتالي تكون المنطقه التي يغطيها هذا التخصص ممتدة من الجزء الأعلى للرقبه إلى محجر العين. وهناك تداخل و تعاون وثيق مع عدد من التخصصات الطبية مثل الجراحة العامة, التجميل, الأنف و الأذن و الحنجرة, العيون و جراحة الأعصاب.
