RCGP Certificate in the Management of Drug Misuse – Part One

Part One to the RCGP Certificate in the Management of Drug Misuse is ideal for GPs working at a generalist level, as part of a shared care scheme and for those intending to provide treatment to drug users as part of a locally or nationally enhanced service. This course is mapped to the Drug and Alcohol National Standards (DANOS) and is delivered in 2 stages.

ThePart One courseis multi-disciplinary so pharmacists, nurses, drug workers and other healthcare professionals can complete the certificate. This course is made up of two sections

(e-Learning and face to face training day)and is equivalent to 9 CPD hours.

If you wish to qualify for the Part One Certificate of Completion you must complete and pass the eLearning module, “Drugs: Management of Drug Misuse (Level 1)"and attend either a local or national face to face training event. Both sections of the course must be completed within a

6-monthperiod. `

It is advisable to complete the emodule before the face to face training day which can be accessed at will need to be registered with the RCGP for access but do not need to be a member. Once you have completed all sections of the emodule you will be able to access an electronic emodule certificate.

  • Introduction to primary care treatment of drug users
  • Assessment of a drug user and harm reduction intervention
  • Safe prescribing in general practice
  • Patients with more complex needs
