Looking for experience in the sexual health / public health voluntary sector?
NAZ is a dynamic charity providing sexual health and HIV prevention and support services to BAME (Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic) communities in London. We also give advice and support for people living with HIV as well as running health promotion support groups and outreach work, including to LGBT communities in London.

NAZ has gained an expertise in providing frontline services for 22 years. We work within two main networks - the newly formed Sibling Voices Network of sexual health organisations, the Counterpoint Policy Alliance (NAZ, Positive East and Positively UK) and other policy groups - to promote BAME sexual health within governmental policies, and ensure that the health sector has adequate provision for them.
You would be supervised by Ivana Paccoud our policy and research officer and Marion Wadibia, our Chief Executive. This role will include conducting research into BAME sexual health, helping to run the Sibling Voices Network and assisting with policy work.
Your tasks may include:
Research
· Assist in writing briefing papers, background discussion papers, public policy consultation responses, presentations for meetings and campaign resources.
· Interviewing stakeholders and service users
Networking
· Provide support for the Sibling Voices Policy Network and NAZ policy campaigns.
Support and communications
· Support a small team of people living within an HIV advocacy project
· Support in responding to policy consultations
When? The role is 2 days a week, during office hours. The timings are flexible and could be split over more days if preferred. We'd like you to intend to stay in the role for 4 months. This gives us time to train you and for you to gain knowledge of our work.
Where? Our office is in Hammersmith, London, though you may be able to do much of the volunteering from home. Nearest Tube station is Hammersmith, 5 minutes walk away. There may be infrequent visits to other organisations within London.
You should have:
· Education to degree level on relevant social sciences, sciences, journalism or other professional qualification, or with comparable work or voluntary experience
· Knowledge of BME and / or sexual health issues
· Experience in social research or policy analysis or advocacy (desirable)
· Report writing skills (e.g. conference or seminar reports, policy briefing and response papers, research papers)
· Strong communications skills in written and spoken English
· Ability to prioritise taskload and meet deadlines
· Proficiency in Microsoft Word, e-mail systems and with conducting research through the internet
· Enthusiasm about NAZ’s work with BAME communities
· Confidentiality for the people who use our services is of the highest priority to us and volunteers must respect this at all times. You will also be required to maintain confidentiality on policy strategy and related issues
NAZ is committed to equal opportunities for volunteers with a disability. We take all cases on an individual basis, please contact us if you wish to discuss this. We have ramp access to the building and an internal lift, and a lavatory fitted for users with disabilities.
