Humanities students work in three fields: a Major field and two Minor fields. A “field” is defined as a recognizable and coherent segment of a discipline. Examples: Public Policy is a field in Political Science, Citizenship Studies in Sociology, Continental Philosophy in Philosophy, Oral History in History, Translation in Literary Studies, Performance Studies in Theatre, Architectural History in Art History, Sculpture in Studio Arts. In some cases a “field” may be interdisciplinary, for example digital game studies, gender studies. The Major field in a Humanities student’s program is normally in the discipline of their Master’s degree.

POTENTIAL ADVISORS

Applicants are required to have a confirmed three-member advisory committee at the time of application. Identify below the three faculty members at Concordia with whom you wish to work and upload confirmation emails from each advisor who has read your research proposal and agrees to serve as a Major or Minor field advisor should you be admitted to the program.

Note: Advisors must be full-time faculty members holding a Ph.D. If you wish to work with a faculty member who does not hold a Ph.D., they may be listed as an additional member of your advisory committee. Advisors listed below must correspond to the Major and Minor Fields listed above.
