Directions for Dual CREDIT COURSE ADditions

These instructions are for courses not currently listed in the JCPS Course Catalog (Course Master in IC) for a specific university course code and institution. Only courses linked to KDE Course Codes and KY Academic Standards will be approved.

Step 1: The school follows JCPS procedures and timeline to establish a dual credit partnership with a postsecondary institution. Eventually, dual credit partnerships require a Memorandum of Agreement, signed by the postsecondary partner, the principal, and the Superintendent upon Board of Education approval.

Step 2: School personnel and curriculum and/or career pathway specialist(s) work together to ensure alignment with KY Academic Standards and to fill out JCPS Dual Credit Course Addition Form. (See listing of specific specialists.)

Form should include (but not limited to) the following information:

·  Partner institution, university course codes (e.g. MATH 115), and course description

·  State Code (Uniform Academic Code – KDE Website)

·  Proposed JCPS Course number (Specialists provides from the Student Information System, i.e. Infinite Campus)

·  Proposed Course name (Specialist provides - following KDE and JCPS data conventions)

·  Proposed delivery model (classroom, online, college campus)

Attach typed documentation for the following:

·  College Course sample Syllabus including learning outcomes/expectations

·  Alignment with Kentucky Academic Standards and/or identified discipline standards

·  Recommended Course Text or Resources Used

Step 3: Form should be signed by school personnel requesting the course (i.e. counselor/assistant principal and principal) and sent to the appropriate Specialist(s). Principal signature is required.

Step 4: The appropriate Specialist verifies or provides the following, and the form is sent to their supervisor to initial:

  1. Verify the JCPS course number (not in use) and course title (naming convention e.g. ENG 101 JCTC English 4).
  2. Check to see if state code is correct and how it is being used.
  3. Make sure college course description aligns with the KDE information from the state description.

Step 5: Approved and supervisor initialed forms are sent to the office of Curriculum Management who enters the course into the Student Information System (including all course number permutations, course descriptions, and grade tasks) then notifies the following personnel that course has been created:

·  Achievement Area & Curriculum and Instruction Assistant Superintendents

·  Curriculum and Career Pathway Specialists

·  Master Schedulers

·  School personnel at originating school
