Technology-Connected Lesson Plan

Title: /

Virtual Frog Dissection

Grade Levels: / Biology I
Curriculum Areas: / :  Science
Measurable Objectives: / :  TLW review skills needed to analyze and implement the scientific method to complete a virtual frog dissection.
:  TLW demonstrate knowledge of anatomy and physiology of a frog.
:  TLW compare and contrast frog anatomy with human anatomy.
LA Content Standards:
(SI GLEs: 6, 8, 11) / :  SI 6- Use the five senses to describe observations (SI-E-A3)
:  Describe how investigations can be observation, description, literature survey, classification, or experimentation (SI-H-A2)
:  Use technology when appropriate to enhance laboratory investigations and presentations of findings (SI-H-A3)
:  Identify and describe structural and functional differences among organelles (LS-H-A1)
:  Analyze the interrelationships of organs in major systems (LS-H-F1) (LS-H-E3)
:  Compare structure to function of organs in a variety of organisms (LS-H-F1)
Explain how body systems maintain homeostasis (LS-H-F2)
:  Explain how selected organisms respond to a variety of stimuli (LS-H-F3)
:  Explain how behavior affects the survival of species (LS-H-F4)
:  SE-H-A11: understanding how pollutants can affect living systems
Technology Standards: / Technology Productivity Tools (Resource Access and Utilization Foundation Skill)
¨ Students use technology tools to enhance learning, increase productivity, and promote creativity.
¨ Students use productivity tools to work collaboratively in developing technology-rich, authentic, student-centered products.
Technology Research Tools (Linking and Generating Knowledge Foundation Skill)
¨ Students use appropriate technology to locate, evaluate, and collect information from a variety of sources.
¨ Students evaluate and select new information resources and technological innovations based on the appropriateness to specific tasks.
Social, Ethical, and Human Issues (Citizenship Foundation Skill)
¨ Students practice responsible use of technology systems, information, and software.
¨ Students develop positive attitudes toward technology uses that support lifelong learning, collaboration, personal pursuits, and productivity.

Procedures: / :  Introduction: Review the safety procedures with the class for any type of dissection.
:  Provide each student with a copy of the newfrogwkst.pdf for them to complete as the activity proceeds.
:  Using the Smart Board lead the class through the interactive website that goes through the process of dissecting a frog.
:  Students will follow along on the frog worksheet filling in answers as they go.
:  Go over the answers once the review is complete.
:  If additional practice is required there are alternative dissection sites listed above. This activity may be used in lieu of the actual dissection, but the ideal situation is for this to be preparation for the real dissection.
:  Review lab safety and proper dissection procedures if this is prep for a dissection as closure. If this is not in preparation of a dissection, closure should be a review of the steps involved in dissecting a frog.
Materials: / :  Pencil and paper
Assessment: / :  Class participation, Q & A, Closure identification of test taking strategies.
