KING MACKEREL
A very good eating fish, these fish are mostly caught on the reef banks north-east of Medjumbe and off the “Wall”. Average size “cuta” is between 10kg and 18kg and some big crocodiles around 25kg.
YELLOWFIN TUNA ( yellowfin, skipjack & bonito )
This is our main target species. Big shoals of tuna move in and out of the Pemba area all year round, and a full house strike from these brutes when you discover their shoal makes for some exciting fishing indeed. Average size tuna taken out is around 10kg to 20kg, with some in the 30kg to 35kg range coming out every now and then.
KINGFISH
Locally known as “Ignobilis”, the sheer power of this fish is virtually unparalleled and it is known for bending hooks, breaking leaders and snapping lines. Present all year round, being an extremely aggressive
predator and frequently attaining sizes in excess of 70 pounds (Pemba record 93 lbs), makes them one of the most sought after quarry for any serious fisherman.
ADDITIONAL SPECIES
The area is also very popular for the sheer quantity of its year round game fishing.
Amongst the most common game fish species are :
• KINGFISH (over 12 different species )
• GREAT BARRACUDA & SEA PIKE
• QUEEN MACKEREL (Natal Snoek )
• QUEENFISH
• POMPANO

MARLIN
Fishing the Quirimbas is still in a very early stage, with fishing charters only being established in the last 4 years. Marlin fishing is not established yet, however, small marlin do come out from time to time on local fishing boats.
SAILFISH
Sailfish fishing in the Quirimbas has started picking up towards the end of 2004, with a couple of good sized sailfish coming out early in the mornings. Sailfish season is reported to be between July and December.
WAHOO
These aquatic missiles are one of our main target species. These fish are taken on almost any form of bait, artificial and organic. Our Quirimbas record is a beast of 32kg. They are found all year round with peak activity around September towards April.
DORADO
Being a great fighting fish, we target this rainbow coloured acrobat of the sea. It is not strange to have a full house strike from these magnificent fish when you trawl past any floating objects, which they seem to favor as a point of ambush. Peak season is October to March.
