Code of Conduct

PERSONAL CONDUCT

1.  Each person will conduct themselves in an orderly and responsible manner in transit to and from, and during Model United Nations conference weekend January 5-7, 2018 with the knowledge that personal behavior reflects upon the quality of the program, the YMCA, one's delegation, one's school and one's self. Including by not limited to the following:

a.  Delegation prep meetings

b.  Conference weekend

c.  Training session (student officers and Youth Secretariat only)

2.  Participation in all elements of the program will be maintained on a professional and productive level. Each participant will attend all scheduled program functions, activities, meetings and training sessions. Each student is responsible for submitting the following documents to their advisor by due date established for their delegation.

a.  Credential and Code of Conduct

b.  Country Research Paper or specialized committee assignments

c.  $100 non-refundable deposit by November 1, 2017

d.  Balance of conference fees $200 (By December 1, 2017 participation is finalized and payment required; no refunds after December 1, 2017)

3.  The use or possession of electronic devices is limited during program activities.

a.  Devices must be turned to “silent” or “vibrate” during program activities and official functions.

b.  Personal computing devices may be used in program area functions, for committee purposes only, at the discretion of the Student Officers and committee Adult Advisor.

c.  Limited use of social media for program functions is permitted, unless overused or abused.

d.  Use of anonymous social networking apps (YikYak, etc.) is prohibited. Posting derogatory comments on these platforms is not within YMCA values and will not be tolerated.

4.  Discrimination against or harassment any individual because of race, color, age, creed, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, or any other class protected by federal and state law.

SAFETY

1.  Changes to lodging room assignments or committee assignments will not be permitted without the approval of the delegation Director and the Model United Nation Program administration.

2.  Delegates will observe quiet hours and remain in their assigned hotel room by the curfew listed in the official program schedule. Curfew will remain in effect until 6:00 AM the following morning. Quiet hours will also be observed in the halls during conference committee sessions.

3.  At the discretion of the delegation advisor, males shall be allowed in female’s rooms and females in male’s rooms, only with the door completely open, during free time only and not after curfew.

4.  No curfew shall be set after conference scheduled curfew.

5.  No delegate is permitted to leave the Hershey Lodge or Hotel Hershey at any time without permission from their delegation advisor and notification of the Model United Nations program staff.

6.  Use or possession of the following by delegation advisors/staff and students is strictly forbidden at all YMCA Model United Nation Conference:

a.  Flammable products and devices – lighters, matches, incense, candles, etc.

b.  Tobacco products and alcoholic beverages

c.  Illegal drugs or chemicals; including but not limited to misuse or sharing of prescriptions or over-the-counter drugs

d.  Weapons/objects that may be used as weapons

7.  Delegates who are suspected or found using or possessing alcohol or illicit drugs will immediately be expelled from the program. Parents/guardians will be notified and will be required to pick up their child expeditiously.

8.  In case of an emergency, the delegation adult advisor will contact the delegate’s parents/guardians immediately.

9.  All delegation adult advisors are encouraged to perform bag checks before boarding the bus and random room checks with reasonable cause.

10. Liquids in a 3.4 ounce or less container are recommended. Liquids include but are not limited to the following:

a.  Shampoo/Conditioner d. Contact Solution

b.  Lotion e. Body Wash

c.  Mouthwash f. Perfume/Cologne

FACILITIES

1.  Each delegate will respect the property of others and any facilities in use by the YMCA Model United Nations Conference. Each participant is liable for the destruction of private or public property that the participant caused.

2.  Candy, gum, and food are prohibited in all meeting rooms and facilities at all times.

3.  Property or materials in any facility must not be removed or tampered with in any manner.

4.  Use of the Hershey Lodge and Hotel Hershey pool and water activity area during conference weekend is prohibited.

DRESS CODE

1.  Nametags will be worn at all times. Nametags will be worn visibly on the front of the upper torso. Nametags are not to be defaced, decorated or altered in any way.

2.  Conservative, professional, business dress is the expectation during program activities and official functions. Clothing choices should reflect for a professional environment.

3.  Participants and advisors will adhere to dress code expectations at all times and are expected to bring appropriate attire to events. Those not in appropriate dress will be asked to change clothes. Casual dress will be permitted during designated times within the conference schedule. Exceptions are made for religious purposes and only with the approval of the delegation adult advisors.

Examples of Professional Attire Collared dress shirt (including button-downs, blouses or polo shirts), sweaters, suit vests, suit coat, blazers, ties, dress pants (including khakis), dresses, skirts, belts, suspenders. Dress shoes are required to be worn all day – flat shoes/low heels are good choices. (Hems of dresses and skirts must be 2 inches above knee or lower.)

Inappropriate outside hotel rooms Any clothing with inappropriate language or imagery, any see-through, low-cut or extremely tight-fitting clothing, tube tops or bare midriffs, pajamas or any other sleeping attire, slippers or bare feet

All delegates are expected to act in accordance with the YMCA four core values: Honesty, Caring, Responsibility, and Respect. Failure to follow the Code of Conduct will result in one or more of the following disciplinary actions:

·  The loss of privileges or position

·  Parents of the participant notified

·  Removal from program/sent home at delegate/parents expense – without refund

·  School Official notified

·  Summoning of Security and/or police

Discipline of the delegates is generally the responsibility of the individual delegation’s Adult Advisor(s). If conduct of the delegate becomes detrimental to the program, disciplinary action, in accordance with the CODE OF CONDUCT, shall be taken by the Model United Nation Program Administrators in conjunction with the delegation Adult Advisor(s). There will be NO more than 20 students per one (1) adult advisor.

No delegate is permitted to leave the Hershey Lodge and/or Hotel Hershey at any time without permission from their delegation Adult Advisor and Model United Nation program administration. Any delegate needing to leave the conference early and apart from their traveling delegation will be required to submit an Independent Dismissal Form to their Adult Advisor(s) and Model United Nations Program Administrators.
