PRESS RELEASE: MishMash Productions take children on a musical adventure during the Family Arts Festival at Lakeside

CHILDREN can find magic in places which grown-ups overlook: the dark muffled space inside the box, the patter of rain on the roof, the saucepan set, the overgrown garden. For years children’s theatre has had a rich tradition of exploring these imaginary worlds, but what about music?

After a two-year project extensively researching the potential of music for young audiences, MishMash Productions has been formed to create something new and exciting: original music that directly connects with the world of children. They kick off an Autumn tour at Nottingham Lakeside Arts on 17 October.

Liz Muge, Creative Producer for MishMash Productions says: “We believe that children deserve to be presented with musical experiences of the highest quality, engaging their young minds and taking them on thrilling and inspiring adventures.

During 2015 we are developing Hubbub: A Musical Adventure - a brand new piece of work, combining original music with an engaging theatrical experience that will leave young eyes and ears utterly spellbound.”

Developed in association with Lakeside ‘Hubbub’ will take children and their adults on a magical, musical journey as 5 friends follow the trail of the mysterious blue beetle in the quest for a lost voice – an enchanting show that is sure to captivate children and their adults alike.

With support from Arts Council England, the PRS for Music Foundation, the Hinrichsen Foundation, Nottingham Lakeside Arts, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Music Hubs and Round Hill Primary School this exciting new work is being developed in collaboration with an ensemble of four musicians from the critically acclaimed Aurora Orchestra, actor Josie Rattigan who was in Lakeside’s 2013 production of A Christmas Carol, award-winning composer Paul Rissmann, theatre director Martin Berry and designer Hannah Wolfe.

Following the launch at Lakeside, Hubbub will continue to Kings Place London, The Apex Bury St Edmunds, and the CBSO Centre Birmingham (a co-promotion with BCMG) before embarking on a longer 10 date tour in 2016.
