COMPUTER ANIMATION I/II FINAL EXAM
______
Now that you’ve visited the Cooper Hewitt Museum and have completed your sketch for your idea for one scene of your animation, you will use it to create a really detailed concept drawing with color. This will be part one of you final exam. Part two will be to write an artist statement to go with the concept art. See below for specific instructions for both parts.
PART 1 – CONCEPT ART
- You will use your sketch to help you draw a really detailed scene of your animation in pencil onto drawing paper provided by me.
- You will need to clean up any mistakes with an eraser before you begin to color in the concept art.
- Use colored pencils to color in your concept art (I will demonstrate this for you).
- Fill up the entire surface of the drawing paper. It can be an open composition.
- Put your name on the front in a corner somewhere (not too large).
PART 2 – ARTIST STATEMENT
- You will need to type the following in a Word document, using a 12 pt. font and 1.5 spacing and use spell check before you print. This should be no longer than one page.
- Describe your character, including:
- Name
- Personality/special traits
- If there is more than one character, describe them as well
- Provide a brief summary of your storyline:
- Beginning
- Middle
- End
- Describe in detail what will happen in the concept art that you drew and the process you went through to create it, for example:
Carl Fredrickson and Russell are dragging the house to the vacation spot that Mr. Fredrickson promised his late wife, Ellie, that they would eventually get to go on before she died.
I first sketched out my design using pencil and then I colored in the drawing with colored pencils. I used shading techniques to give the image depth and texture. I included my light source; which was coming from the sky, by highlighting certain areas within the image.
Fieldtrip to the Cooper Hewitt Museum
Assignment: Concept Art
Due: 1/14/16
______
- We are taking a fieldtrip to the Cooper Hewitt Museum on Tuesday, 11/24/15 and we will leave right after 1st period and return to school by 2:00 pm.
- Please meet me at the breeze-way (by the gyms) to catch the bus to NYC by no later than 9:00 am.
- Fill out the registration form and return it to me by 11/16/15 with $10.00 (cash only).
- You will need to bring a sketch book to draw in or if you don’t have a sketch book, bring a notebook to lean on and I will give you drawing paper. You will need to bring a pencil with an eraser, too.
Why do you need drawing materials, you ask? Well, you will have an assignment to do while you are visiting the museum! Pixar has concept art on display at the museum and this is what you will be doing:
- View all of the concept art on exhibit and take 3 pictures of concept art that inspired you with either the pen that the museum provided you or with your phone. You will be sharing your images in class so be prepared to explain why you chose these images.
- Sketch out concept art for your environment in pencil, filling the entire page.
- Do not shade things in with the pencil, because the artwork needs to be colored in using colored pencils for homework.
- If you have more than one environment for your animation, just pick one to illustrate.
- Make sure that your concept art reflects the style of your character.
- We will be using the concept art to add details to your 3D modeled environments.
