JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Title:Financial Capability SpecialistReports to:Director, Financial Capabilityor his/her designee

General Functions:This position is dedicated to helping low to moderate income families change financial behavior, build assets and become financially stable. Job responsibilities will include case management for Individual Development Account Project (IDA), one on one financial coaching and education workshops that will allow participants to reach target goals including increasing credit score, budgeting; saving; utilization of quality financial services, and asset development.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The statements below reflect the items considered necessary to describe the essential functions of the job identified,and shall not be construed as a detailed description of all work requirements that may be inherent in the job.
- Provide case management services to all participants of United Way’s Financial Capability Initiative from entry to exit of program(s). This would include intake, financial education and coaching, purchase of an asset and exiting the IDA Project with follow-up.
- Work with IDA referral and banking partners to collect and manage participant data, track applicant activity, and coordinate intake and closeout procedures.
- Coordinate and maintain records on participant progress from intake through orientation, opening account, financial education and coaching session, asset-specific training, asset purchase, and follow-up.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date information and support data collection and management processes.
- With Director, Financial Capability provide support, training, and periodic evaluation for financial institutions, service partners, and staff.
- With Director, Financial Capability coordinate and maintain all record keeping and financial tracking for the participants using IDA information software.
- Problem-solve, handle, and resolve division organizational matters and administrative details not requiring the personal attention of supervisor.
- Be organized and prepared for reports, meetings, and conversations with participants.
- Provide one-on-one coaching for participants in United Way’s Financial Capability Initiative. Assist participants with goal setting, budgeting, credit building/rebuilding, debt repayment, savings, utilization for quality financial services, and asset development. Monitor participant progress toward financial goals. Follow up with participants on referrals to other financial service professionals when applicable. Maintains files and database for all participants including the intake form, credit report, coach’s appointment notes, analysis and corrective action plan.
- Conduct financial education classes. Oversee participant performance at onsite financial education classes.
- Identify, cultivate, and maintain relationships with key community partner agencies. Identify and refer participants to other resources and services needed to achieve their financial goal.
- Provide support, as needed, to other core programs including cross-training in other Financial Capability Initiative. Assist with special projects as assigned and other tasks deemed necessary to achieve overall goals and to operate a successful program.
- Adhere to all guidelines related to confidentiality with sensitive financial and personal information. Follow regulatory and quality-control requirements. Work to ensure that satisfaction is a priority of the coaching program.
- Travel for training and occasional meetings as needed.
- Perform other work related duties as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of Associate Degree (bachelor degree preferred) in human services, community development, business, or related field.
- Fluency in English required and fluency in Spanish preferred.
- Certification in financial coaching and credit counseling, desired, or ability to obtain and maintain certification with support from United Way.
- 4+ years’ experience in areas of financial education, credit counseling, case management, banking, community development, employment counseling, volunteer management and/or related experience
- Self-motivated, quick study, and able to work effectively with a minimum of supervision.
- Computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Adobe, and PowerPoint.
- Strong mathematical ability with exceptional reasoning, problem solving, and analytical skills, including an ability to translate ideas and concepts into clear actionable items.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills including proper telephone etiquette.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to initiate, build, and continuously strengthen partnerships with a diverse population.
- Must maintain valid driver’s license, minimum insurance and reliable transportation.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with co-workers; a team player.
- Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and cognitively respond appropriately and with discretion.
- Demonstrated ability to use sound judgment to handle/resolve details and matters not requiring the personal attention of supervisor.
- Unquestioned confidentiality with sensitive financial and personnel matters and issues
- Must be available to work a regular Monday-Friday work week with occasional early morning, evening and weekend availability as needed.
- Have no outside business interests that may conflict with the organization's goals and objectives and not explicitly approved by the President/CEO
