Labour Force Survey Data, January2018

It should be noted that the data in the seasonally adjusted series are partially based on past data from the quarterly labour force survey, so these series may change in the future after they are fully replaced by series based on the monthly labour force survey.
In January 2018: (to tables)
- Unemployment rate of persons aged 15 and over from the labour force -3.7% (compared with 4.0% in December 2017).
- Participation rate in the labour force among persons aged 15 and over -63.6% (compared with 64.1% in December 2017).
- Employment rate (the percentage of employed persons out of the total population) among persons aged 15 and over - 61.2% (compared with 61.5% in December 2017).
- Unemployment rate among persons aged 25-64 from the labour force - 3.1% (compared with 3.4% in December 2017).
- Participation rate in the labour force among persons aged 25-64 -79.8% (compared with 80.5% in December 2017).
- Employment rate among persons aged 25-64 - 77.3% (compared with 77.7% in December 2017).
- The share of employed persons usually working full time out of total employed persons - 77.6% (compared with 77.9% in December 2017).

The Labour Force Survey is the main source of information regarding the labour force in Israel, and is conducted by the Central Bureau of Statistics on an ongoing basis.
Starting from the beginning of2017, an average of 20,400 persons aged 15 and over a month have been interviewed on an ongoing basis. The survey population includes the permanent population of Israel, as well as tourists and temporary residents living in Israel continuously for more than one year. The survey follows the development of the labour force in Israel, its size and characteristics, the extent of unemployment, etc.
January2018- SeasonallyAdjusted Data
In January2018,the number of persons in the labour force aged 15 and over was 4.008 million. Among them, 3.860 millionwere employed and approximately 148,000 were unemployed. Among the employed persons, 2.038 million were males (compared with 2.035 million in December2017) and1.821 million were females (compared with 1.837 millioninDecember2017).
The participation rate among persons aged 15 and over in the labour force in this monthdeclined to63.6% (compared with 64.1% in December 2017). Among males aged 15 and over, that rate declined to68.4% (compared with 68.5% inDecember2017), andamong females aged 15 and over itdeclined to58.9% (compared with 59.7% in December 2017).
The unemployment rate among persons aged 15 and overfrom the labour forcedeclined to3.7% in this month (compared with 4.0% in December 2017, see diagram 1). The unemployment rate ofmales aged 15 and overdeclined to3.5% (compared with 3.8% in December2017), andthat of females aged 15 and overdeclined to3.9% (compared with 4.2% in December2017).
Among persons aged 25-64 the participation rate in the labour forcedeclined to79.8% in January2018(compared with 80.5% in December 2017). Among males aged 25-64 that rate declined to 84.7% (compared with 85.0% in December2017), andamong females aged 25-64 that rate declined to 75.0%(compared with 76.1% inDecember2017).
Among persons aged 25-64 the unemployment ratefrom the labour forcedeclined to3.1% in this month (compared with 3.4% inDecember2017). Among males aged 25-64the unemployment rate declined to2.9% (compared with 3.3% in December2017),and among females aged 25-64that rate declined to 3.4% (compared with 3.5% in December 2017).
The number of employed persons in January2018 reached 3.860 million,a decreaseof 0.3% compared with December2017.The number of employed persons who usuallywork full time (35 hours and over per week) decreased by 0.6% compared with December 2017 (a decrease of approximately 17,000 employed persons), whereasthe number of employed persons who usuallywork part time (less than 35 hours per week)increasedby 1.3% compared with December2017(anadditionofapproximately 11,000 employed persons).The percentage of those whousually work full time of all employedpersons declined to77.6% (compared with 77.9% in December 2017).Among malesitdeclined to 86.5% (compared with 87.0% in December2017), andamong females it declined to67.6% (compared with 67.8% in December2017).
The number ofemployed persons who worked full time (35 hours and over) in the determinant weekincreasedby 0.1%, compared with December2017(anadditionof3,000 employed persons), whereas the number ofemployed persons who worked part time (less than 35 hours) in the determinant weekdecreased by 0.7% compared withDecember2017(a decreaseof approximately 8,000 employed persons). The number of employed persons temporarily absent from work in the determinant weekdecreased by 1.2% compared with December2017 (a decrease of approximately 3,000 employed persons).
The employment rate (calculated as the percentage of employed persons out of the total population)amongpersons aged 15 and overdeclinedto 61.2% in January2018(compared with 61.5% in December 2017).The employment rate among males aged 15 and overreached66.0% (same as in December2017),whereasamong females aged 15 and overthat ratedeclined to56.6% (compared with 57.2% in December2017). Among persons aged25-64 the employment rate declined to77.3% (compared with 77.7% in December 2017).Among males aged 25-64 the employment rate reached82.2% (same asinDecember2017), whereasamong females aged 25-64 that rate declined to72.5% (compared with 73.4% in December2017).
