MINUTES
Board Members Present: Laura Bernstorf, Sam Foreman, Ian Worrell, Ty Brackin, Thomas Dalton, Ellen Decker, Sundee Dunn, Amber Hendrix, Joslyn Kusiak, Roy Mansch, Tara Patterson, Thomas Stanley, Suzy Finn, Meg Foreman
Board Members Absent: Traniece Bruce, Josef Hamilton, Tim Brunson, Ebony Clemons, Mike Converse, Connie Dietz, Greg Klenda, Shelly Prichard, John Trowbridge
1. 5:33pm – Meeting called to order.
2. Approval of April Meeting Minutes
a. Ian Worrell motioned, Sam Foreman seconded. May minutes approved as written.
3. Team Updates
a. Enhance:
i. Event Date: Saturday, June 13, 2015
ii. Contact Suzy to sign up your team!
1. 140-150 volunteers currently signed up, but can use more.
iii. House leads have met with all homeowners and discussed plans.
iv. Ten homes for 2015
v. Sculpture / Mural approved by Army of Artists.
vi. Community Center at Evergreen Park will be accessible for check-in.
vii. Community Celebration
1. Location: Evergreen Park
2. Time: 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m.
3. Free swim day for community
4. Lunch provided for community and volunteers

b. Pulse:

1. On track to be BIGGER and BETTER than last year!
a. Have capacity for 400 attendees this year.
b. After-party to be held at Joe’s in Old Town.

a. Will be rolled out on Social media soon; help promote.
3. Incorporating past YPW Chairs for awards presentations.
ii. RECAP - RiverFest Balcony Bash
1. Event netted $2,194
2. 127 people attended; generally positive feedback.
3. Considering a repeat event next year.
iii. All Action Team Mingle being considered.

i. June 23 - City Advisory Boards 101
1. In addition to representatives from the City of Wichita, this event will include reps from Andover, Goddard, Derby.
ii. July 27 - breakfast with the Wichita City Mayor during YP week
iii. July 28 - Professional Development Series event planned for YP week

2. Purpose is to allow Wichita YP organizations face time with YPs.

i. Have received positive feedback/commitments from individuals being sought to attend next meeting.
1. Working to increase attendance and mix of people attending.
2. Anticipating 20 people at next meeting.
ii. Last meeting attended by Mayor Jeff Longwell.
1. Mayor spoke about his City plans and ways YPs can contribute.
2. Committed to attending each YPW Advocacy meeting for first 5 minutes to provide update on City issues in addition to getting update from YPW.
3. Invited YPW to attend and submit significant announcements at the Mayor’s weekly press/news conferences when appropriate.
i. BEA Update:
i. Wanting to cooperate with YPW, especially for the purposes of getting young business leaders and often young family parents there to give their opinions.
ii. RECAP:
1. June 2 event with the Incoming Commissioner of Education, Dr. Randy Watson.
2. Community conversation with local business leaders.
3. Focused on skills and abilities business leaders believe are needed to build a successful future workforce and what areas graduating students may need to focus on / improve upon in order to be more “work ready” when entering business world.
4. Strategic Priority Update
a. Goal One: Member Survey
i. DEADLINE IS FRIDAY!!! PROMOTE, PROMOTE, PROMOTE!
ii. 125-150 responses at this time.
b. Goal Two: 10-Year Celebration
i. With current event activity for YPW / marquee events, 10-year promotion is occurring naturally. Will focus on second half of year for final 10-year push.
c. Goal Three: Diversity and Inclusion
i. Moving forward with “I am ______professional” campaign
ii. Currently have professionals to represent underrepresented groups
iii. Advance Kansas
1. Suzy attended (review attached business plan for the ICTalent Alliance for further review)
2. Diversity Leadership program, started in January and met one day a month for five total sessions. As part of the program, each team completed a Community Action Project. Suzy’s team included Dennis Clary (Cox Communications), Nikki Freeman (Wesley Medical Center), Phil Hayes (The Arnold Group), Dana Hensley (Business-Education Alliance), Robert Moody (Martin Pringle), Kelly Snedden (Butler Community College), and Carrie Weigand (AGH). They created the business plan for the ICTalent Alliance – a two-part website with the mission of: “Promoting economic development efforts in the Greater Wichita region by enhancing candidate and new hire perceptions of the community through information and interaction.”
d. Goal Four: Economic Development
i. Moving forward and going well
1. Finishing up surveys with key players / YPs regarding Eco Devo landscape and level of understanding from these groups
2. Next step will be to “mine the data” and work on education piece for YPs and determine where YPs will fit into the equation
5. Staff Updates
i. Founder’s Day
1. Table sponsorships for Founder’s Day still being accepted (please see email attachment)
2. Four corporate table sponsorships sold
3. Action Teams can purchase tables
4. Corporate Investor of the Year Award voted and decided.
ii. Budget/Sponsorship Update
1. Balcony Bash made money as already outlined in minutes.
2. New Sponsorship(s)
a. Klenda Austerman - $1,050 - additional sponsorship toward three mingle events
3. Start thinking about changes for 2016 programming that may affect / require additional sponsorships
6. Other Business
a. Community Pride T-shirt idea
i. Sam and committee of YPs working on t-shirt designed to promote community pride for Wichita
ii. Would engage local art community for design of t-shirt
1. Would also attempt to engage / encourage area high school and college students to participate in the design competition
iii. Proceeds from t-shirt sales would be split between artist that wins design competition in addition to 3-5 charities that would be determined by YP selection committee.
iv. This project remains a work-in-progress; details, rules, etc. being refined.
v. Possible roll-out in early 2016.
