The Kite Runner Blog Assignment

Throughout your reading of The Kite Runner, you will respond to questions/statements on your teacher’s Blog. For each reading assignment or group of chapters noted, you will make one original blog entry and after the blogs are posted/approved, then respond to the blog of one classmate.

The original blog post must fully answer the question, or respond to the statement given with an explanation supported with direct textual evidence from the assigned chapters, and demonstrate a personal response to the reading. Therefore, you must demonstrate your understanding of the reading and show your personal engagement with, or connection to, the text. Prove that you have read the assigned chapters and show how you connected to it, reacted to it, or felt about it.

After blogs are approved by the teacher, you must respond to one of your classmates’ posts. Your response must relate to the post, demonstrate appropriate tone, and offer some comment on/reaction to the post. Just typing “I agree” does not constitute a sufficient response.

What are the qualities of a thoughtful, well-written post?

Demonstrate an understanding of the text by making inferences and connections and going back to the text to support your ideas.

Include quotations and refer to page numbers.

Organize your responses so that they flow from idea to idea smoothly.

Have plan for the order you will present your thoughts, and decide before you write what the focus of the response will be.

Use writing conventions (spelling, capitalization, punctuation, sentence structure, grammar) accurately.

*Avoid only plot summary! Excessive plot summary will lower your grade. You need to show that you have read the assigned chapters, but what I’m most curious about is how you interpret/react to what you read.

Reply post: You must keep a log of whose posts you reply to; you may NOT reply to the same person twice (so throughout the unit, you will comment on three different students’ posts).
