Faculty Strategic Fund Awards

The Scheme

As a result of improving on budget target, the Faculty is able to create a £15,000 research award fund. Research Committee is therefore inviting applications from Faculty members to this scheme.

Terms and Conditions

Awards of up to £2,000 are available to be used for a period of up to 24 months. Awards must start no later than Trinity Term 2016.

All Faculty members are eligible to apply. Research Committee is not restricting the use of funds other than requiring that applications evidence that the award would support the research of the applicant[1].

Awards could be used as seed funding for new research activity or to support the completion of an existing project. Activities could include:

  • Funding for a workshop or seminar series
  • Travel to meet with collaborators or give a paper
  • Research assistance
  • Administrative support

All successful applicants will be required to provide a report outlining how the funds aided their research. This report should include a summary of spend.

Assessment Criteria

Applications will be assessed against the following criteria:

  • Excellence and intrinsic merit of research
  • Potential for long term sustainability and academic impact of the project
  • Relevance to Faculty research strategy
  • Necessity versus other sources of funding
  • Value for money, noting in particular the potential for shared use of equipment and other facilities

How to Apply

Applicants should provide a case for support and proposed costing by no later than 17th November.

It is anticipated that Research Committee will consider applications at its meeting in sixth week and applicants will be advised of outcomes by the end of term.
