Rye Yacht Club – Junior Sailing Program Information - 2017/18.

Rye Yacht Club will offer twoTackers 1, two Tackers 2and two Tackers 3courses as part of our Junior Sailing Program for this summer.

Tackers Courses are run using OziOpti dinghies and will be usually for 7 to 11 year olds.

These courses are for beginners or those with little sailing experience and cover many aspects of sailing including safety on the water, weather as it relates to sailing, rigging your boat, sailing knots, launching and retrieval, tacking, gybing, recovery from capsize and sailing on all points of the wind.

Tackers 1 and 3 courses will be run on Sunday Mornings from 9:00 until 11:30pm and run for eight weeks.Tackers 2 courses will be run on Saturday mornings from 9:00am until 11:30am and are also for eight weeks. The first Tackers 2 course will start on Saturday November 11th and the first Tackers 1 and 3 courses will start on Sunday November 5th. Second courses will start on Saturday February 27th (Tackers 2) and Sunday January 28th (Tackers 1 & 3).

The cost of your first Junior Sailing Program Course will be $140 and subsequent (Tackers or Start Sailing 1 & 2) courses will be $120. You must also be a member of the Club – Junior Memberships are $83.

A “Green Fleet” program (for Junior Classes) will be run for Junior Sailors over the Christmas / New Year period.

This summer we are introducing a Junior Development Squad (OpenBIC, Minnow) and a Youth Development Squad (29er, Laser Radial, Laser 4.7, RS Feva) for Junior Sailors who have completed Tackers 1, 2, & 3 or Start Sailing 1 & 2. These groups will run on most Sunday mornings as “coaching groups” and then taking part in Sunday afternoon racing.
