The Cyprus GAUnion and the organizers of the 2009 Air Rally Flying championships are announcing the 2009 competition program

Team Leaders: Please ensure that all participants are made aware of the contents of this Bulletin.

Test 1 for the 2009 Air Rally Flying Championship, will take off from Larnaca airport on the 21st of Feb, 2009. GPS Loggers will be used for all judging.

The FAI Air Rally Flying Rules 2008 ( and the CAF Local Rules as amended in January 2003 will apply.

Thirty ( 30 ) minutes map preparation time will be allowed.

Departure Group

All aircraft must be in position by 08:00am at the latest

A competition official will be present to ensure that all competing aircraft are lined up in the proper sequence. After ensuring that your aircraft is parked in the correct departure position by 08:00, proceed to the office of Nicosia Aeroclub for Registration and briefing.

  1. At registration ensure that you:
  • Obtain the day’s program, the final Start List and weather reports.
  • Pay participation fees (20 Euros per aircraft).
  • Sign the Indemnity form if you have not already signed one.
  • Your sporting license is valid.
  1. Briefing will start at 08.30.
  1. Search of first aircraft will start at 08:50. The envelope will be delivered to the first aircraft at 09:00 and the first aircraft will depart at 09:30.
  1. The departure will take place from the main runway and under the Tower control, to the nearest possible departure time.When ready for departure, call the tower on frq 121.2 for instructions. The actual departure time will be adjusted for scoring purposes.
Return Group 1
  1. After passing Finish Point, break radio silence and call LarnacaTower on 121.2 for joining instructions and landing clearance. Once cleared to land proceed for a landing as instructed by the Tower. There will be no spot landing on this Test.
  1. After landing, proceed to the Envelope Return area (light aircraft apron entry in front of Aeroclub office) and return your envelope before the time shown on the Route Instructions. Then:
  • Proceed and park as per the instructions of the competition official.
  • Make no contact whatsoever with Group 2 crews. Follow the instructions of the official responsible for the separation.
  • Proceed to the Nicosia Aeroclub office area where sandwiches and drinks will be offered. Stay in the area until cleared by the Competition Director.

Departure Group 2:

  1. Registration will finish at 11:00.
  2. Briefing will start at 11:30
  1. Proceed to your aircraft. First aircraft will be searched at 11:50.
  2. Envelope delivery will start at 12:00.
  3. Departure of first aircraft at 12:30.

Return Group 2

Same as Group 1.

Group 3

Should a third Group be necessary, adjustments to the program will be effected and notified to crews.

Program

The attached program will be strictly adhered to whether everybody is in place or not. Those not present at the allocated times will be left out.

Aircraft search

Once aircraft is searched, crews are not allowed to leave the aircraft or come into contact with anyone, except authorized judges.

Prohibited equipment

The use of mobile telephones, GPS with displays of any kind and other electronic navigational equipment are prohibited. Aircraft and crews will be searched for these items before delivery of Route Instructions.

Radio

During the flight listen out on 121.2. No radio calls are allowed except after passing the Finish Point, where LarnacaTower will be called for joining instructions.

Timing

Again, zero timing will be used on the Route Instruction’s sheet. Make sure you synchronize your watch with the Master clock (GPS Time) which will be displayed in the briefing area.

Results

Preliminary results will be given to Team Leaders outside the Nicosia Aeroclub office as soon as they become available. Half an hour will be allowed for complaints or objections before the final results are announced.
