NEW RICHMOND POLICE DEPARTMENT CITIZENS ACADEMY APPLICATION
2016
The New Richmond Police Department Citizens Academy is a nine week program covering various aspects of law enforcement. Academy classes will be held on Wednesday evenings in the fall of 2016. The first scheduled session will begin on Wednesday, September 7, 2015. Graduation will be held on the 9th session. You must be at least 18 years old, cannot have any felony convictions, living within or near the City of New Richmond and must pass a limited background investigation.
The Citizens Academy is designed to reach out to members of our community and invite them to learn more about the New Richmond Police Department. Academy classes will be taught by Officers of the New Richmond Police Department, who will be open, honest and candid about their duties and experiences as a law enforcement officer. Class discussion will be encouraged. Classroom lectures will be kept to a minimum, in order to maximize “hands on” practical exercises.
Topics which will be covered during the Academy will include: Police Department Operations & Patrol Operations; Crime Scene Investigations and Evidence collection; Drug Awareness; Defense and Arrest Tactics (DAAT); Problem Orientated Policing; Constitutional Law; High Risk Traffic stops and Building Searching; Firearms; Taser; Pepper Spray and Courtroom Testimony.
The goal of the Citizens Academy is to provide graduates with a working knowledge of the New Richmond Police Department, and to strengthen community support and involvement with the New Richmond Police Department. We look forward to your participation.
Interested citizens should complete an application and return it to the New Richmond Police Department by 4:30 PM on September 1st, 2016. Additional information can be obtained by contacting Sergeant Jacob Sather at (715)246-6667.
