SLIP AND FALL PREVENTION:

Since the inception of the KRHA Self Insurance Fund on January 1, 1990 over $4,000,000 due to slip and fall accidents has been paid out on behalf of the members. This represents 42% of all money paid for claims. This money would have gone back to members in dividend refunds if these preventable injuries had not occurred.

In addition to the products below, it is strongly recommended that aggressive measures are taken to clean floors daily and use top quality cleaning materials and procedures such as “deck brushing.” Grease accumulation on kitchen floors is the major contributing factor to slips and falls in restaurants.

DEGREASERS AND CLEANERS

·  Industrial strength, emulsifying floor degreasers are the best option for removing grease accumulations and maintaining grease free kitchen floors. There are multiple products available through Huber and Massco including Food Master, Betco Foam Tile Cleaner and Buckeye XL 100. These products range from $18.00 to $20.00 per gallon when purchased in cases of 4 or 5 gallon containers. Both Huber and Massco have locations around the state and will do local delivery. Massco is (KC -800-777-2773), Wichita – 316-942-9494 and Huber is 800-362-2892, 316-267-0289. All the above mentioned products have MSDS sheets available.

2.  Many quarry and ceramic tile manufacturers are much more conscious of safety than they were in years past. Many have tiles available that are more slip resistant than the traditional smooth surfaces. Some have imbedded metal particles, some have sandpaper like texture on top, and some have a surface texture similar to an orange peel.

SLIP RESISTANT FLOOR TREATMENTS
