Nomination Procedures and Instructions

  • Complete a separate cover sheet for each honor band (9-10 and 11-12).
  • Determine the total number of applicants possible: Divide the total number of band students in grades 9-12 by 8. This is the total number of students you can nominate for both bands combined.
  • For example: 75 students divided by 8 equals 9 maximum students submitted. You can choose the ration of 9-10 to 11-12 such as four 9-10 students and five 11-12 students.
  • You may submit a minimum of four students per band.
  • All schools must submit at least two students for each band.
  • Complete an application for each student submitted.
  • A director’s signature is required.
  • Directors must have paid IBA and NCIBA dues for the school year that the festival takes place.
  • Send the completed cover sheets and applications, postmarked no later than October 30, 2009, to:

How does the selection committee compare students?

Honor Band Selection Criteria will be the same for both the 9-10 band and the 11-12 band.Students will be selected by the following criteria:

  • All-State Band Member
  • All-State Alternate
  • All-State Recall
  • All-State Auditionee
  • Solo/Ensemble and Rating (specify if local event or IHSMA sponsored)
  • Past NCIBA Honor Band
  • Private Study
  • Other Honor Bands
  • Director's Recommendation
  • Range (for part placement only)
