b. to talk about the housework in their own homes;
c. to improve grammar knowledge/ vocabulary concerning Regular and Irregular Verbs.
B. Affective Objectives:
a. to create a warm/ pleasant atmosphere for study;
b. to give students an active role in the process of teaching/ learning;
c. to help students enjoy speaking English.
Assumptions: I assume that students have understood/ are familiar
with notions such as time and tense in the English
language and they are eager to find out more things
about actions/ activities that have to do with the past.
Anticipated problems: Taking into consideration that part of the
students have a poor level of knowledge and their motivation is rather low, the Teacher expects some of the students (3-5) might not value their presence as hoped for.
Procedures: brainstorming, descriptions, spelling exercises, asking/
answering to questions, the mind map (“ciorchinele”), dialogues.
Stages of lesson activities:
I. Starting the lesson (1’)
The teacher greets the students and makes sure the conditions are proper to start the lesson (the students on duty name the absentees if necessary).
Interaction: Teacher- Students
Timing: 1 minute
II. Homework Check (6’)
The teacher asks for homework. The students answer and say that they had to translate some sentences, using the Simple Past of be and be going to for future plans and predictions. The teacher asks some students to write the sentences on the blackboard and corrects/ explains when necessary.
Interaction: T-S; S-Ss
Timing: 6 minutes
III. Activity 1: Warming Up (3’): brainstorming
Aims: to create a pleasant atmosphere for learning
to involve Ss by means of personalization
to detect the knowledge level they have on Past Tense
Simple
Procedure: T asks Ss what they know (so far) about the
grammatical category of Verbs in English.
“What do you know about verbs in English?”
“What can you tell about time and tense in English?”
Ss answer these questions in turns (3-4 Ss), providing examples of their own.
Interaction: T-Ss; T-S; S-S
Timing: 3 minutes
Activity 2: Presenting the new lesson (Reading/ Speaking
Activity): 13 minutes
Aim: to get accustomed to past activities
to recognize Past Tense forms
to distinguish between Regular and Irregular verbal
forms
Procedure: T asks the Ss to have a look at the new lesson and
try to guess from the images what the new lesson might be about. Then, each S will have to read and translate the sentences. T writes on the blackboard the unknown vocabulary.
Interaction: S-Ss; T-S;T-Ss
Timing: 13 minutes
Activity 3: Speaking/ Writing Activity: drawing a mind
map (10minutes)
Aims: to name different housework activities
to say what the character in the pictures DID (using Past Tense forms)
to give Ss practice in speaking English, getting/ arranging the main ideas from a text
Procedure: T asks Ss to say what the boy in the pictures did
in his own house. Then, with the Ss’ help, T draws on the blackboard the essential ideas, under a mind’s map form. T asks Ss to also imagine a certain hour for those particular past activities.
WHAT DID HE DO?
9 o’clock:
12 o’clock: He collected his sister from school.
12.30 o’clock: He went shopping.
Interaction: T-Ss; T-S; S-T
Timing: 10 minutes.
Activity 4: Speaking Activity: answering to questions (4
minutes)
Aim: to encourage Ss to speak English, telling about their
activities at home
to use Present and Past Tense verbal forms
Procedure: T asks Ss to provide an answer to the following
questions:
“Did the boy enjoy what he did?”
“Do you like doing the housework? Are you good at it?”
5 Ss answer to these questions.
Then, T and Ss draw a conclusion based on Ss’
answers.
Interaction: T-S; T-Ss; S-T
Timing: 4 minutes.
Activity 5: Writing Activity: table drawing (7’)
Aim: to put down/ revise the grammatical category of Verb in
English
to make a difference between Regular and Irregular
Verbs in English
to help Ss dissociate between these two categories of Past Tense forms

middle of which it is written in a circle: “Past Tense

blackboard. The T asks the Ss about Past Tense and tells
them to write on the paper all that comes to their mind.
