RESPONSIBLE TO: Facility Managers / Assistant Operations Managers / Leisure Supervisors

EMPLOYEE SUPERVISION: N/A

Details of duties and responsibilities:

1.To act as a pool lifeguard and ensure the implementation of procedures designed to protect the safety, comfort and well being of pool customers. This includes the day-to-day supervision of swimmers and operation of emergency and rescue procedures as required.

2.Responsible for implementing high levels of customer care to ensure that the care, entertainment and satisfaction of customers is maintained at all times.

3.Responsible for maintaining health and safety standards within the facility in accordance with both legal and BPL requirements as applicable to premises, equipment, other staff and customers.

4.Responsible for carrying out safety checks of sports equipment throughout the facility.

5.Responsible for undertaking general cleaning and maintenance duties as required, including cleaning of changing rooms and toilets.

6.Responsible for preparing and dismantling sports equipment in line with operational and events requirements.

7.Responsible for ensuring high standards of personal presentation are maintained at all times, including wearing of corporate leisure wear and safety equipment.

8.Responsible for first aid matters as they arise.

9.Responsible for ticket checks and preventing unauthorised access to facilities.

10.To undertake any additional training as required.

11.To participate in mandatory staff training sessions as directed by the Training and Development Department based on HSE recommendations.

And any other duties commensurate with the grade and falling within the scope of the post, as requested by Management.

Qualifications
Training / Hold the Royal Lifesaving Society( RLSS) National Pool Lifeguard Award
Must be a competent swimmer and pass BPL water safety test
Relevant first aid qualification / 


Other / Interest in sports and recreation issues and the development of quality service
Level of physical capability required to patrol the pool, set up and move equipment etc.
Ability to work within a pool environment where temperatures may be high / 

Information to Candidates on Employment Terms and Conditions

The following details outlining some of the main Terms and Conditions of Employment are for information only. They do not constitute a contractual agreement. A full Contract of Employment will be issued to the successful applicant on appointment.

1.Working Hours

The normal hours of work will be3.5hours per week. Hours are to be worked to suit the needs of the service which may include evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays

2.HolidaysThere are 20 days annual leave from 1 April to 31 March each year plus 8 Bank Holidays (pro rata for part-time staff). Staff appointed part way through a holiday year will receive a proportionate entitlement.

3.Salary

The rate of pay will be up to £6.75 per hour.

4.Pension

There is eligibility to join the BPL Friends Life Pension Scheme

  1. Probationary Period

All new appointments are subject to a probationary period of 6 months during which time suitability for the position appointed will be assessed.

6.Notice Period

The notice period that will operate on both sides to terminate the Contract will be one month or, on the employer side, one week for every year of service (to a maximum of 12 weeks) if this is greater.

7.Appointment

Appointments made are subject to satisfactory to the employer of a health clearance and two references.
