Daily Plans and Activities for Monday

Objective:Understand, make inferences, and draw conclusions about the structure and elements of poetry.
Procedure:Students will take the Poetry Texas Assessment Practice on p. 678 in the Literature book. They will have twenty minutes to complete this. Then, we will go over the answers and students will have an opportunity to ask any questions.

-Students will analyze, make inferences, and draw conclusions about expository text and provide evidence from text to support their understanding.
-Summarize the main ideas, supporting details, and relationships among ideas in text.
Procedure: Warm-up-Interview classmates to discover what their dream job is. We will discuss the elements of nonfiction and summarizing. Students will read “The Man Behind the Spider-Man”. They will create a chart summarizing what Steven Kutcher does, His Training and Background, and His Spider-Man Experience.

-Summarize the main ideas and supporting details in a text.
-Make inferences and draw conclusions about the author’s purpose in text.
Procedure: Warm-up-Get a piece of paper and write “Kabul’s Singing Sensation”: Main Ideas and Supporting Details at the top. Read “Kabul’s Singing Sensation” in the Literature book on p. 924 in the Literature book. Students will create an outline of the main ideas in the article and list the supporting details. We also will discuss evidence of the author’s purpose in this article.

Objective:-Use a variety of metacognitive strategies when reading text and support with text evidence.
-Identify strengths and areas for improvement on the Mock STAAR test.
Procedure: Warm-up-Update data folders. Students will record and evaluate data, and set new goals. Then, we will go over the Mock STAAR test. Students will identify areas they had difficulties with or needed clarification on. They will also have the opportunity to ask any questions.

Procedure: Warm-up-Students will get a piece of paper and write Reading Strategy: Monitor at the top of the paper. Students will read “Robo-Legs”. We will focus on the organization of the text, noting topic sentences and subheadings throughout. As they are reading we will stop periodically and they will write down questions they have about the text. They will also make a list of details described that help them to visualize information in the text. When they are done, they will switch papers with a classmate and they will answer the questions the other student wrote down. We will read another article titled “Eureka: Scientific Twists of Fate”. We will discuss the main idea of the article
