****ALGEBRA 1 Concepts/Content: The purpose of this course is to develop the math knowledge that can be used to solve a variety of real-world mathematical problems. The content should include, but not be limited to the following:
Unit 1: Linear Equations and Inequalities Unit 5: Exponential Functions and Equations
Unit 2: Functional Relationships Unit 6: Polynomial Expressions and Functions
Unit 3: Linear Functions Unit 7: Quadratic Equations and Functions
Unit 4: Systems of Linear Equations and Inequalities Unit 8: Non-Linear Functions
Unit 9: Statistical Models
Nine Week Grading Policy: Assignments 15 %
Homework/In Class Work 20 %
Quizzes 25 %
Tests 40 %
Assignment Logs/Agendas: Assignment Logs/Agendas are an important communication tool between home and school. The assignment log /Agenda is to be used as a planning tool as well as assisting the student with organization.
Classwork/Homework/FCAT/FCIM: These assignments will be checked daily. Assignments must have all work shown to receive credit. The POD (problem of the day) /Bell Ringer practice problems will be displayed at the beginning of class everyday. The first three minutes will be used to do these problems quietly and homework will be checked for completion.
Notebooks: Binders are very important!! Students will keep all assignments, vocabulary, notes, quizzes and tests organized in it. A notebook grade will be given once or twice each grading period. The binder will be divided into six (6) sections: Bell Ringers; Notes/Classwork; Vocabulary; Homework; Quizzes/Tests; and Learning Logs/Comprehension Checks
Quizzes and Tests: Quizzes will be given frequently. Tests will cover material from class discussions, notes and the textbook. Projects will count as a test grade.
Semester Grading Policy: Semester grades will be determined by averaging the two nine week grades which will account for 70% of the semester grade and the remaining
30 % will be the semester exam and/or final exam grade.

Extra Help: Tutoring will be available before school on Monday, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. Students that wish to receive tutoring before school should report to building #500, room 110 no later than 8:40 a.m.

Skyward Information - Parents, guardians and students have access to the student’s assignment history and grades by accessing skyward. Please refer to the Tavares website, locate the short cuts section and follow the directions on how to set up and access your student’s skyward account.
Grades: In addition to the County’s official progress reports and report cards, your student will receive a report containing assignments, missing assignments, current letter and numeric grade every other Tuesday. This report must be signed by the parent or guardian and returned to the teacher within 3 days.

The parent or guardian is to sign the report and the student is to return the form back to his/her teacher within three (3) days. Please sign the bottom of this form acknowledging that you have been informed that your child will be receiving an academic report every other Tuesday notifying you of his/her progress, as well as receipt of the Syllabus and classroom rules and procedures. Please review the classroom syllabus as well as the classroom rules and procedures with your child as it provides information regarding procedures, websites, textbook information and materials required for class.
