3.  Greetings, Round of Introductions

The usual round of introductions was conducted

4.  Review and approval of agenda

The agenda was reviewed. It was moved and seconded to accept agenda.

5.  Announcements and Comments by the Chairman

·  The following E-mails bounced:

Domsch, Curtis / Atlantic Scientific Corp. /
Drabkin, Mark / LEC, Inc /
Funke, James / Eaton /

Does anyone have the correct E-mail addresses for these folks?

·  WG membership requirements

-  Attendance: 2 meetings to start, then not miss 2 meetings in a row

-  Contributions

WG attendees not meeting these requirements will be carried as Interested Parties.

·  Hospitality suite 7210

·  WG Scope

1. Establish performance characteristics for surge protective devices packaged to be connected to low voltage communications and signaling circuits for multiple component combinations of linear or non-linear elements. [C62.64]

2. Develop and recommend standard methods for testing and rating these devices. [C62.36]

3. Prepare sections defining the characteristics and recommended application criteria for these devices for incorporation into the Low Voltage Surge Protective Devices Application Guide. [C62.43]

4. Coordinate and incorporate sections prepared by other groups for single devices. [Look at C62.36 in this light. Is it coordinated?]

·  Vice Chairman/Secretary: Need one!

·  Status of C62.43, “Draft Guide for the Application of Surge Protectors Used in Low-Voltage (Equal to or Less than 1000 Vrms or 1200 Vdc) Data, Communications, and Signaling Circuits”: Document has been approved for publication by Revcom, and is in the IEEE editors queue.

·  A Cover Page for contributions has been posted on the WG3.6.7 website. The cover page will be updated to include a corporate disclaimer notice. The cover page needs to accompany contributions to the working group.

·  Standards up for 5-year review: Although no notice has been received, the last revision of C62.36 was in 2000, so it is due for revision.

·  Contribution Deadline for Next Meeting: September 23

6.  Review and approval of the October, 2004 meeting report

The minutes of the last meeting were E-mailed to members and interested parties, and posted on the WG3.6.7 web site. No comments were received. The minutes were approved.

7.  Liaisons

8.  Contributions

Chrys Chrysanthos submitted a re-arranged version of C62.64 [WG3.6.7-04-05-020-IEEE PC62.64-200X-D1] for discussion

Al Martin submitted a revision of Table 1 in the current draft of C62.74 [WG3.6.7-05-05-004 Test Matrix]. The revision expanded the table to include columns for each test in C62.64.

9.  Continue the revision of C62.64: Read PAR

This standard is to be revised to include new technology and devices. It will

·  Provide preferred values and parameters used to specify the performance of these surge protectors.

·  Be coordinated with its companion document C62.36.

Work on this standard resumed, with a review of the contribution from Chrys Chrysanthou [see item 6]. Work started with a consideration of the expanded Table 1 from Al Martin’s contribution [see item 6]. Starting with the first row, marks were put in each column where typical values were needed. Homework for the WG is to replace the marks in the table with values. When completed, the columns in the Table will become the tables of values for the relevant tests in the Standard. Tests that have no values associated with them may be deleted from the Standard. The Table with the marks [but not values] will be included as an informative annex.

Bogey Klobassa and Nisar Chaudhry agreed to describe type D antenna feeds in Table 1; expand the list of antenna feed types to include those in common use that contain non-linear components; and put values in the relevant test columns. Don Turner agreed to contact Mark Lynnes about contributing descriptions and values for protector type F: Alarm circuits. Chrys Chrysanthou agreed to add a subclause 5.2.1.3 “DC-Limiting Voltage Test” to the C62.64 revision. Al Martin agreed to submit a revised subclause 5.2.2.4 “Current Reset”. Pat McCurdy agreed to describe type E – Industrial applications and Type G – Ethernet and unbalanced applications in Table 1; expand the list of applications; and put values in the relevant test columns.

The tests in C62.64 were then reviewed, and revised as necessary. The WG decided to move clause 5.3 “Mechanical Requirements” to an informative annex, as there are no tests in C62.36 for the mechanical properties of protectors, and the PAR for C62.64 requires coordination with C62.36. Environmental Requirements may also be moved into an informative annex, for the same reason. The WG will decide about this move at the next meeting.

Chrys Chrysanthou will revise the draft of C62.64 to incorporate the changes made at the meeting. The revised draft will be posted in the members part of the WG3.6.7 web site.

An author is needed to take the phase shift test from C62.36 [clause 7.8] and add it to C62.64 as subclause 5.2.3.7

Send contributions to Al Martin, who will log them in and forward them to Chrys for inclusion in the C62.64 revision.

10. Living List for C62.36

During the meeting it became apparent that a number of the tests in C62.36 needed updating. Specifically, return loss, insertion loss, longitudinal balance, voltage rate of rise, and frequency ranges. The updates needed will be recorded on a Living List, to be kept on the WG3.6.7 web site.

11.  Action Items

Bogey Klobassa, Nisar Chaudhry

In Table 1, describe type D antenna feeds. Expand the list of antenna feed types to include those in common use that contain non-linear components. Put values in the relevant test columns.

Don Turner

Contact Mark Lynnes about contributing descriptions and values for protector type F: Alarm circuits

Chrys Chrysanthou

Global search and replace of “infinite ohms” by “infinite resistance”

Add subclause 5.2.1.3 “DC-Limiting Voltage Test” to the C62.64 revision

Al Martin

Add IP statement from ATIS or TIA to the contribution cover page

Submit revised subclause 5.2.2.4 Current Reset

Create a PAR for the revision of C62.36

Update PAR for C62.64

Post a Living List of revisions needed to C62.36

Pat McCurdy

In Table 1, describe type E – Industrial applications and Type G – Ethernet and unbalanced applications. Expand the list of applications. Put values in the relevant test columns.

12. Closing notes

Eight hours are requested for the next meeting, and the availability of a PC projector and a wireless hub would be appreciated.

The Fall meeting was adjourned at Noon on Tuesday, May 3, 2004

Respectfully submitted

Al Martin
