CHARLTON BROWN® Disability Trainer and Assessor appointed to the Board of the Brisbane Chapter of United Nations Women’s National Committee
Karni Liddell, CHARLTON BROWN® Disability Trainer and Assessor, has recently been appointed to the Board of the Brisbane Chapter of United Nations Women’s National Committee.
Karni is a former Australian Paralympic swimmer, having been diagnosed at birth with a degenerative muscle wasting disease called Spinal Muscular Atrophy. Karni has drawn on her experiences in her role as Disability Trainer and Assessor at CHARLTON BROWN®.
The Board of the Brisbane Chapter of the United Nations Women’s National Committee will be holding the Brisbane International Women’s Day Breakfast, 6 March 2014.
Karni, a Queenslander, said that she was honoured to be appointed to the Board and to be joining such a respectedand extraordinary group of women.
“I am very aware of the fact that I am one of the lucky ones as I am a woman with a disability whom is employed, empowered, safe from violence and I am able to afford to purchase a power assisted wheelchair which allowsme the luxury of being independent and free,” said Karni.
“I believe we can create change by firstly talking about the fact that women with disabilities are one of the most vulnerable and underprivileged groups in the world and that together we can change this and enable women with disabilities to have the same opportunities as their able-bodied sisters,” said Karni.

In December 2013, Karni spoke at the TEDxSouthBankWomen conference on the topic of overcoming adversity.
Karni is also an ambassador for the Day of Difference Foundation, Muscular Dystrophy Association, and the Sporting Wheelies and Disabled Association. She also holds a Bachelor of Communications, a Masters of Social Work and Certificates in Training and Assessment.
